It all comes down to one thing, COACHING. You say WVU will never get there, guess what guys, we have been there, 1988 Nehlen had the team, but Harris got hurt. 2007 WVU had the team, but Fraud got hard headed. We have had the right team and the right coach before, and will again. Under the BS way of SELECTING a champion, we are at a disadvantage, as the name means more than the game. Talent means nothing without coaching, do you think ND suddenly didn't have talent when fat Charlie was there? Did OSU players turn into bums when they fired Tressel, then turn back into stars when Meyer got there? Just because Holgorsen can't do it here does NOT mean it can't be done.

WTF is this diatribe??..

Not even sure where to begin...lets start with the guz in 2's!...for the sake of argument after 100 plus years of football Wv had a modicum chance at playing for a MNC 2 in that window of time.. BTW how long was Nehlen HC in Morgantown to get that chance?

Your comparing Notre Dames program to Wv??..Really?

Ohio State? Tressel WON a NC at Ohio State if I remember correctly..umm yeah he did

The following year (2002) Tressel and the Buckeyes became the first team in college football history to finish 14–0, defeating the heavily favored University of Miami Hurricanes in double overtime to win the 2003 Fiesta Bowl and the 2002 National Championship. It was Ohio State's first national championship in 32 years. That success made him the first coach in NCAA history to win the AFCA's Coach of the Year award while at different schools; he is also the first to win the award in two different divisions.[28]..

Pretty sure he got fired for this reason..

The 2010 OSU football season finished with the team posting a 12–1 record. However, as a result of NCAA violations from Tressel knowingly using ineligible players, the 2010 season was vacated, leaving the team's official record for the campaign as 0–1.

So forget all that..forget I even mentioned it...lets stick with having the right Coach....well at Alabama that means spending $11 million Dollars for JUST the HC...Wv ready to do that? If you want a cheaper version Dabo is making 7.5 Million...Hey Harbaugh at Michigan is making $9 Million...but I know Dad Wv should find one of those Diamonds in the rough and they get a steal!!...hey maybe Stewart has a brother? Or a sister?

This post tells me that you bitch just to bitch. You mention 2 examples that date back almost 30 years and are 19 years apart but bitch that the present coach not being able to take us there. You felt Stewart could. You include schools that we are no where close to in academics let alone tradition. ND and tOSU will always have talent that would probably exceed ours during one of our up years while they are considered having a down year.

You wouldn’t be able to bring in a coach without spending money. Big money on a coaching staff and facilities. You, and others, bitched about coaches contracts calling No Balls decision of going to yearly contracts and getting the “Hometown Discount”. Funny how fast Lyin’ Shane Lyons reversed that stupid decision. You bitched about the little upgrades that have been implemented by Ollie. Talk to me about funding the sports program when you start going to games or have a kid going there. Your tears aren’t helping enough.

You can't be fucking serious.

You hate the human polls and the way they vote the prettiest girl the queen, but you reference the '88 season? I love Coach Nehlen, and he has become a good friend of my father's. But, the '88 season will never be repeated. WVU went undefeated playing no one. Two teams that finished above .500... only one season end ranked team. We saw an undefeated Wisky team get no cred this year. Why? Because they didn't beat anyone all year. Exactly the same as '88.

The BCS gave WVU a chance in a crazy year when teams kept losing... and losing late. WVU lost early to an unranked USF, but with the polls... it was able to move up as teams above them lost. This would never happen today, but we're talking about then.

The '07 team would never have shared a conference championship in any other AQ conference. Look at how thin the talent was for that team. An injured Pat White lead to two losses. An injured Steve Slaton forced a true FR on the field.

The '88 team could not replace an injured Major Harris. Could not replace injured kids in the secondary or on the OL. Had it played in the SEC or another power conference at the time, who knows how injuries would have impacted them?

The '84 team was the first to beat PSU in 29 years. Me and Slaton partied like rock stars after that win! That team was so thin... it went on a 3 game losing skid... losing to fucking Temple.

These examples are why Coach Nehlen supports Dana. He knows the deal...

Hell, I guess WVU should just kill off the football team and throw our support to the basketball team.....we suck at football and always have, always will, just a complete waste of time. If a genius like Holgorsen can't beat the powerhouses of Kansas, IAST, KSU, etc, there is no reason to even try........you guys are unreal

That was the only night I spent in jail in my life.........spent a ton of it sitting in the "paddy school bus" parked on the old stadium bridge approach

You should and you do. Your example of Dana is no different than the information bb just said about Nehlen. Your hate still shines through.

Remember when DAD sported his Ohio Wesleyan University avatar in protest of college sports?

That was a real statement...

Well, c’mon man, that was the only stadium that sold a hotdog and a Coke for $1.50. You notice that he never mentioned their coaching staff, record, or chances of a National Championship.

I wouldn't go that far...I just think the Dana haters really need to take two steps back and reset their expectations in TODAYS game...it takes money...a ton of it...to compete for a NC..its sad but true.. and that gap unless the well runs dry...which it could if the ESPN money dries up ..will only widen..and it is impossible to even catch lightening in a bottle or the stars aligning perfectly for a team like Wv to have a shot unless you have at minimum an 8 team format

Nobody talks on this board during the season.

My Dad has come back. no more of this love fest on this board.

If nothing else, Dana has improved players and got us back to a bit of respect with the USA today No 10 preseason ranking.

Dana is coach Dad, might as well get used to the idea and be a fan and try to support him. He is probably as good as any replacement that we could get to come to WVU. Saban aint coming home.

If Slaton can embrace Huggs, then I am sure you can embrace Dana.

Speaking of Huggins...You don't think Stephen F Austin isn't in the back if his mind...and talk about throwing players under the bus.................................just need to listen to the first 3 minutes

If Dana gave that kind of answer the Haters would be ALL OVER HIM!...and no I am not hating on Huggins...just hate the double standard..because if anybody's math is not working today..he hasn't won a NC either and he is a future HOF..

The SFA loss still stings.

There is a double standard with some WVU fans. They trust Huggs... they don’t trust Dana. If Dana said practices were terrible... kids weren’t focused. The team performed like I thought they would... the haters would scream... “It’s Dana’s job to get them focused.”

Huggs puts the blame on the players. And, he won’t ever get criticized for not having his team ready to play.

And Honestly outside of 1 final four ..which IMHO equates to an Orange Bowl appearance ...why does he get a such a big pass?

how do you equate a final four to an Orange bowl????? the final four is on par with the final of the "playoff", even a greater accomplishment, IMO, as you have played your way in, NOT got voted in based mostly on your name.

You sure it equates to an Orange Bowl? You better check your Poppy Math! It may be only worth a Gasparilla Bowl this year and the Taxslayer Bowl next year. Or the Cure Bowl this year and the Sun Bowl next year. I just can’t seem to get a direct correlation.

I understand the point you’re making. The BE no longer plays FBS football. Does anyone consider the BE anything but a power conference in basketball? There are G5 football conferences that suck terribly in basketball.

As I stated, teams like Gonzaga... Wichita St in basketball are no different IMO... than Boise St... WMU... UCF in football.

It really doesn’t change the fact that the number of programs truly competitive in Div 1 basketball is equal to that of FBS.

How many low major teams are ranked this year?

As I said first, I think the difference in hoops in football boils down to, 5 vs 22. 5 great athletes can take you to a final four. You need 22 to make the CFP. But that too adds to the competition. Where do all the hoops stars go?

Are there many hoop stars? The NBA draft is but 2 rounds. Almost half of the draft is coming out of Europe.

Each year, out of the 300+ teams that play Div 1 basketball, how many have a legit chance to win the tournament every year?

Well lets do the math...that year the first game in the NCAA tourney Wv played Morgan State. Next in the round of 32 they beat an middle of the pack SEC team in Mizzou..Then they beat a Washington Huskie team ( Who even knew they had a basketball program) in the Carrier Dome...then they only real game they played was against Kentucky...

So yes for what it takes to get to the Orange Bowl in my world its the same.
