Schmitty was S&C coach on 3 different teams that won National Titles. He is good.

That was decades ago. He wasn't S&C coach for all of them. ND was using sand filled Joe Wieder weights when they won a title.

Sooners were hoping Mike Stoops left for Aggy..........Too bad suckas!!!!

On a serious note, your O-line coach is the most important coach on Riley's staff. That dude should be making $1M a year minimum.....

You happen to disagree with most Head Coaches, but so be it. We can agree to disagree

Which is probably why only a handful of coaches win big each and every year.

Their teams don't get out-muscled at the l.o.s.

Recruiting has as much or more to do with that as strength and conditioning. S&C coaches can’t make a kid taller, longer, or give him more fast twitch muscle fibers.

Granted...but that is a separate issue that has nothing to do with S&C coach.

They have "molds" when they recruit that players need to fit into.
Unless a team is a total bottom-feeder you won't find many, if any
6-2 or below ol. 6-3 is probably the minimum they are looking for.
Some schools might have 6-4 as a minimum.

It is up to the coaches to supply the proper sized player to the S&C Coach.
Then it is up to the S&C guy to make him, not only a football player but a man.

When Stoops took over for Blake he brought in Schmitty. I was fortunate enough to talk to Seth Littrel the summer before the 200 national championship season. He was the starting fullback at the time. He said they all thought they were in good shape. But Schmitty worked them like they had never been worked before. He said it was horrible. Everyone was throwing up every workout. Every player on that team was in the best shape of their lives. He didn't expect to go undefeated and win the national championship but he said they wouldn't play a single team that was in better shape than they were.

One of the biggest reasons for Sumlin mid season collapses was because of the strength and conditioning (or lack thereof)

The team that Sumlin inherited was much more physical and you can see the drop off beginning his second year.

This is a big hire. Probably one of the best Strength coaches out there

I understand that.

FSU had what they called..."Mat Drills" for roughly 20 years every February.
They worked their butts off. They always said that was a bonding spot for the
players, because everybody was sick.

Then when the Darling youngster died in 2001, we had to curtail those types of
drills and we paid for it on the field, for 6 or 7 years.

All hype. Good luck with that guy. He was mediocre while at Texas......either that, or we just had a bunch of pussies on our roster, which is also very possible.

I'm not excited. We lose a top guy and bring in a guy that couldn't keep his job at Tennessee, Texas and Tech.
So we ended up hiring the guy we beat.

I wouldn't say "pussies". I would say that some of those guise just didn't "buy in" to what was being put forth. A good coach will motivate everyone and prove that he truly cares about them and is willing to give it all he has. Character.

This new guy seems to have jumped around a bit and has potentially other irons in the fire. Hopefully he won't be distracted.

Schmitty had a good run, good on him for grabbing the cash. TA&Mmies will be glad to have him.

He was handcuffed by that idiot you guys had, Mad Dog Madden. I think he will be alright but Schimmty was Top 10. So hopefully he's close

Based on the combine results this might not have been that big of a loss after all.
