Assuming Thome, Vlad, Chipper, Hoffman and Edgar get in this is my 2019 ballot:

Clemens
Bonds
Mussina
Schilling
Ramirez
Walker
Rivera
Halladay
Mcgriff
A.Jones
Only one I disagree with there is McGriff. I forgot about Rolen. He would be my 11th guy over Helton.

Guerrero is going to become the 6th player to be elected in his 2nd year since the "modern BBWAA" voting system was put in place in 1967. He also has a chance to break Roberto Alomar's record of 90% voting percentage in a player's second year. Here are the other 5 who were inducted since 1967 in their 2nd year of eligibility, sorted by voting percentage.

1. Roberto Alomar, 2011: 90.0%
2. Yogi Berra, 1972: 85.6%
3. Rollie Fingers, 1992: 81.2%
4. Carlton Fisk, 2000: 79.6%
5. Whitey Ford, 1974: 77.8%

Not the least bit shocking. He's a total douche.
Yeah Dan has been all over the map. He inexplicably dropped Tim Raines in 2014 after voting for him in 2013. Then voted for him again in 2015, 2016, and 2017. And it's not like he voted for 10 players he 2014, he just felt like dropping him for no reason. Did the same thing with Trammell that year too. He never voted for Piazza, which is crazy to me. He didn't vote for Ivan Rodriguez.

He also dropped Schilling in 2017 and hasn't voted for him again. I bet he doesn't vote for Rivera next year.

Amazingly, out of all the Boston Globe guys, I give Pete Abraham the best ballot. And he might be the biggest tool of them all.

To answer your query on McGriff, I think his playing in Toronto endears him to me. Was a good player on those 80's Toronto teams and did decent when he left Toronto as well.

Edgar's at 80%, I think he gets in but barely, have to see what happens.

Problem with Edgar is he has only gained 19 voters, and he's gained some votes from brand new ballots but lost just as many on people who aren't voting this year. 19 is a good gain, but he missed last year by 73. The non-public ballots tend to be more conservative voters so I don't think he gets in.

do you think there is a little conspiracy(in lack of a better term)?? do voters discuss beforehand who they will vote for just so Some candidates don't fall off the list and so NOBODY reaches the 100% or so some people don't make it their first ballot??

I don't think there needs to a be a conspiracy now. I think a lot of voters wait to see what the ballot tracker shows.

Something to demonstrate that the 10-player limit is a problem. Just on the 2014 ballot there were 9 guys who are now in the HOF, PLUS Bonds, Clemens, Schilling, Mussina, and Edgar.

not sure if that is a problem, but may show that the committee lets too many players in...

My thoughts exactly. The HOF is kinda becoming a participation award. It should only be for the absolute best of the best. Not just players you liked as a kid.

I actually think the HOF should be smaller than it is, but I still think at least 12 out of the 14 guys I listed above are HOFers.

you posted 14 players..

I don't have edgar, Morris, Trammell or mussina in the HOF...

But the problem is not that there could be more than 10 HOF candidates it is that there are some clear HOFers who for some reason don't make it their first time...

Yeah I posted 14 players who were on the ballot in 2014. I agree that the 10 HOF candidates shouldn't be a problem, but it is a problem because clear cut HOFers don't get in on the first try. I have 13 out of 14 of those guys in the HOF, actually 14 guys total on that particular ballot because I would have voted for Larry Walker. I just find the 10-player limit unnecessary.

ill agree that the limit is unnecessary... but more because I think the system sucks... i would take away voting all together... Baseball is a statistical game... and there are too many voters who vote with emotion...

the way i see it, a player is either a HOF or he is not... there shouldn't be a wait period for them to be eligible, and i will never understand how a player can be on a list one year and off the same voters list another year...

But what statistics would we use to determine if someone is a clear cut HOFer? And I don't think the HOF wants players to take a year off, become eligible, be elected, and then go back to playing.
