Figured I'd start this here. Did this on the Mariners board and it was a great place to discuss rumors, ideas, armchair GM thoughts.

This should probably be the most interesting offseason we've seen since Mora was fired and Carroll took over. A lot of big decisions to be made by the front office.

I could see the following happen this offseason:

Coaching:
Cable leaves for another job

Starters at one time, not resigned:
S.Richardson
P.Richardson
Lane
Lacy
Rawls
Joeckel
Aboushi
J. Graham
B.Walsh

I could see the Hawks letting these players walk for the sake of gaining at least 4 high comp picks next year...

Resigned:
B.McDougald
D.Shead
B.Maxwell
Q.Jefferson
D.Jordan
M.Smith
J.McKissic
M.Davis
L.Willson

Cuts:
Bennett
Avril
Chancellor
J.Ryan

Trade(s):
I believe Earl Thomas will be traded for draft picks... If not Earl, I see Sherman being traded for picks... Both could be sent packing as well... The Hawks may know that they won't have a shot at resigning Earl next year, so they may try and move him for some draft picks.. Especially since we may not get any comp picks this year in the draft...

Ifedi could be sent packing for a pick as well.. If we could get a 4th rounder, i'd be ecstatic... but honestly, I don't see him being traded... Hawks invested a high pick into him and they may just try him at a guard position next season..

Trading earl could be a smart move considering, at least in my opinion, this team is going to be terrible next year.

Maybe we should trade Wilson as well. Just start over since we are so screwed.

Earl is older and has one year left on his contract. He has more value at this point than any of our other older stars.

Man I'd love to keep P Richardson, but I'm sure some team will overpay him, and he/Lockett are somewhat the same player.

Some folks have us drafting edge rushers but I think we might be okay with Clark and Dion Jordan... MAYBE McDowell will work out and the Hawks FO is counting on it.

I agree Avril and Jon Ryan need to go.

We really save no money by cutting Kam... I really don't see the harm in keeping him around for the $2-2.5M it costs, unless his injuries are just too severe.

Bennett has lost a step big time but he was still a decent edge defender this year. His cap hit is only $8M and getting paid $6.5M cash. I could see Seattle keep him around and if not he'll certainly draw trade interest given his contract is fairly cheap for a defensive end.

Priority signings/targets should be:
* Offensive line
* Runningback
* A TIGHT END THAT CAN FUCKING BLOCK (they are cheap anyway)
* Kicker/Punter

Edit:
As for the coaching staff, it'd probably just be easier to overhaul everything with the exception of Richards who did a decent job considering how banged up our players were and the non-existent run game.

The players have COMPLETELY given up on Cable/Bevell, and there were numerous times this season where players were showing contempt for him and flat out ignoring the coaches. Even Wilson just ghosted Bevell and some defenders I believe started shoving Cable.

My hope is that Kam just retires so we don't have to cut him... If he can play again though, then yes, we should keep him for the reasons you specified...

We definitely need a blocking TE... I thought they would've utilized Vannette more with that task but they didn't use him much at all this year... He had to have been better than Graham at blocking, no? I would like to see the Hawks pursue, Austin Seferian-Jenkins in FA... He's a very good blocker... Seems like he's cleaned up his act a bit... If we could sign him, then we can let L. Willson walk as well...

Penalties needs to be addressed like never before under Pete Carroll... Penalties was a big reason for our lack of success this year... Too many 2nd, 3rd and 15/20 on offense along with teams getting 1st downs from the defense... It was no other word to describe it but, "pathetic"... Look who the top 2 players were in the NFL regards to penalties... Both of them were Seahawks with a total of 35 between the two of them... That's "Pathetic"... Look how many of those were pre-snap... Especially for Bennett... That is "Pathetic"... The team had a league leading 181 flags thrown... Dolphins were in 2nd with 161 flags thrown... That is "Pathetic"...

This is where I 100% place blame onto the coaching staff for allowing these penalties get out of hand this year... I didn't see any accountability for players, especially the two main offenders in Ifedi/Bennett... This will need to be fixed... It's a lack of discipline and that falls onto the coaching staff...

Bennett at least was above average according to PFF and got a # of hurries and 8.5 sacks. Plus he was playing injured a couple times.

Ifedi though was terrible when he wasn't committing penalties. He has all the physical tools but needed good coaching to develop his technique. Another reason Cable needs to be fired.

On the other thread it's been talked about how we signed a K to a futures contract. We also signed FB Jalston Fowler as well. I would like to see us use a full back again - like we did with Coleman and Tukuafu - so here's hoping he can be good for us.

Love to get back to the full back as well...

The one player on that list who I really hope the team brings back is Sheldon Richardson. He'll be costly, but I think he had a great year and is still young. If Bennett and Avril are both gone, I think Richardson would be a good foundational piece for the next few years along with Reed, Clark, and Naz Jones. I think we are just as well off saying goodbye to all the others on the list. I would be ok with P-Rich coming back, but that would probably mean we lose Lockett a year from now, and I would rather have Lockett than Richardson.

Resigned:
B.McDougald
D.Shead
B.Maxwell
Q.Jefferson

M.Smith

Agree on all. McDougald had a strong season and would be a decent insurance policy should Kam not play again. I've always like Shead, and he plus Maxwell & Griffin would be a decent top 3 at CB. If Sherm comes back, even better. Luke W's drops can be maddening at times, but he's a cheaper player who fits ok with the offense.

Cuts:
Bennett
Avril
Chancellor
J.Ryan
I think Bennett is 90% going to be released, and I think that's a good thing. He'll be 33 during the season, and he's been battling injuries the last couple years and that won't get better with age. I'm also tired of his non-football crap infecting the football crap. Cutting MB post-1 June saves $5.5M in '18. Avril either retiring or being cut saves $7.5M. Put those together and you could probably use it to re-sign Richardson. Kam is under contract through 2020, but his salary balloons after '18; I hope he can come back and play.

Earl is interesting. He bounced back from injury and had an excellent season. I think trading him now would be a pretty big gamble because I'm not sure we got to see enough of Tedric Thompson to feel good he can fill in as the starter in his 2nd year. If ET doesn't get an extension this off-season, then I think the writing is on the wall for what happens after '18. My gut says they let him play it out.

Ifedi is frustrating. I think I've seen enough of him at RT; I would expect having Brown at LT will make Fant move to the other side and compete there. Maybe Ifedi comes back inside to see if that suits him better. But he looks like a bust right now, so I would be ok with shipping him off for pretty much anything we can get in return.

For Ifedi,

The best thing they could do is shift him to left guard next to a veteran like Duane Brown and an average center in Britt. Having Ifedi on the outside with his technique is a disaster and it shows. I blame Cable on that one. He wanted a raw physical lineman, yet he can't coach him. Or maybe Ifedi just doesn't care and is riding to the bank. Either way, I'd like to see Cable gone and get someone in there different to work with him before we ship him off for basically a 5th+ rounder.

Yeah, Sheldon will come at a pretty hefty price... The main reason I don't think he resigns is he's on record stating that he likes big cities that have a night life... I think he'll be looking for anywhere between 14-15 million plus a year... It will be interesting for sure but like you, I'd be happy if we do resign him because that is such an important position on the DL... I guess a lot of their decision will ride on the progress from Malik McDowell...

I'd also rather have Lockett over PR as well... I don't want to have to have 2 receivers (Baldwin/PR) getting paid a lot of bank taking up a good portion of the salary cap... PR could be looking at 7-8 million a year and that would mean the Hawks would have around 20 million a year locked up between the 2 receivers...

I think Bennett is 90% going to be released, and I think that's a good thing. He'll be 33 during the season, and he's been battling injuries the last couple years and that won't get better with age. I too hope Kam can play... I don't want to write him off but it doesn't sound too good... I curious to know what the process will be in terms of time frame on finding out if Kam can play again or not... Are the Seahawks giving him a deadline on when they have to have any answer?

Isn't he the one Clark cold clocked in practice? If so, Clark didn't knock much sense into him...

He played poorly at RG his rookie season... Not sure if that would be a success story or not moving him to the guard position from RT... OTOH, maybe a different OL coach would suit him well... He could also just end up a back up throughout the remainder of his contract since he has basically played all positions, outside of Center in college/pro... He could be more useful just being a diversified backup...

I agree with this philosophy... Basically talking about moving on from a player a year too early rather than a year too late when they're on their decline... He uses Belichick as the example...

Yes, I remember. Although our right tackle was Garry Gilliam who sucked and was not that experienced. Putting him next to Duane Brown would probably really help. Justin Britt was also playing Center for the first time in 2016 so he was trying to learn a new position and wasn't helping either.

We need someone highly physical at left guard who can use strength to push some of those DTs. Ifedi can do that since guard does not require as much technique. Putting him next to a very competent tactician in Brown and a much more comfortable Britt will probably accelerate his learning curve and give him some confidence.

He's NOT getting any confidence on that island at right tackle considering our RG sucks ass anyway.

Ifedi for some reason has a HUGE issue with false starts... he led all offensive lineman this year and he had 6 last year in 7 games played. MAYBE putting him between Brown/Britt will help? I guess. That's IMO the last ditch effort for him.

Objection! Speculation!
I wont ask for links. ADB disagrees completely with you on that.
