Another team I should have added would be the 2002 Tampa Bay route, they had a defense full of hall of famers and they could only manage to reach the super bowl only once before breaking apart if I am not mistaken. We are in a better position because we have a franchise QB and Brad Johnson at the time was already up there in age.

I dunno. I personally don't see the SD thing at all. To me, way more differences than similarities. SD was running their franchise into the ground in the late 90s and early 00s to the point where when they drafted Manning after panicking on Brees after year 2 (Giants drafted Rivers, not SD), he refused to play for them. SD made the swap with the Giants, and then they let Brees walk. Rivers ended up being really good, but that team has made past the divisional round only 1 time with Rivers. He's had 6 head coaches. They really haven't been any more successful than the Hasselbeck era Hawks.

Also seems like a false dilemma to me -- why only 2 choices? Maybe it ends up being neither.
