That's cool...... I really don't pay attention on what's going on up there....I should though lot of guys end up there
I saw him just randomly when I was checking out my new ESPN ap for my appleTv. It was just a random ass game I turned on and sure as shit, he's out there. He only played for a series at the end of the game but I was hollering at my wife that it was Teeth Price.

One of my favorite Dawgs. I even bought his RC auto football card off ebay, I think he only has two.

You guys should have heard the Spokane sports radio show crying about how Ma'tafa got ripped off because he didn't win the DPOY award :dhd::dhd::dhd:.

I'm sure he was the favorite....and then the Apple cup happened .

Looks like he's getting the first team all American honors though.

Came here to post exactly this.

27-47 over his time at FIU :pound:

Probably not the splash that Oregon was hoping for.

But but he coached at Bama for 4 years!

I understand he's a great recruiter, but then end result is Wins and Loses........Ask Sc fans!

The best part is, from what I found reading up on him a bit, he even worked his recruiting magic at FIU. He brought in what were supposedly impressive classes for FIU/Sunbelt. Being able to recruit means nothing if you can't do anything with it. I'm sure he'll be able to put a better staff together to help him out at Oregon than he could at FIU, but still, weird but hilarious hire.

While of course it was a short notice thing, but what's glaring about all this is Taggart wasn't even one of their top choices. Phil asked guys like Schiano to take the job last year and they all turned him down. Taggart was a plan C level candidate. So what does that make Cristobal then? A total plan C kind of guy again. Even worse in many ways.

Considering they could of easily waited a few more weeks to do a more coordinated search (and they already could see the writing on the wall leading up to Jimbo leaving and were supposedly already putting out feelers to candidates to have a backup plan), etc, etc....
What anyone who isn't some Nike U. nutswinger can see is that it's not remotely as great a gig as they make it out to be. Between the lengths you have to go to get kids to commit to live in Eugene and knowing you'll end up with a toilet paper diploma even if you stick around to graduate, along with all the Phil and Nike involvement in every aspect of the AD, yes, the Oregon job isn't remotely what they're fans and media make it out to be. Underneath all the fluff and facilities Phil built, it's still not a place top tier coaches want to be.

My prediction is that Cristobal lasts 2-3 years of 6-8 win seasons and Phil fires him and this whole process repeats itself again.

It is my understanding they had reached out to many of those names that were floating around and for whatever reason were not finding matches.

Easy to assume it wasn't about the money offer and they have talent and facilities so there had to be good reasons so many coaches, many in need of a quality job, would turn this opportunity down and leave them in this lurch. Obviously working for both an AD and big money man isn't for everyone. And I'm sure there was a lot of that in it.

My best guess is it was a combination of no big names really feeling like they were a fit or would commit and this petition the players and some recruits put forth and the AD's office just balked.

Did they really let fear of what the current kids and recruits remaining might do if they ended up like Tennessee force their hand?

You really can't come up with an answer for why they made this hire, this fast without it looking like a desperation move.

It's facinating stuff. All we hear out of Eugene is Phil wants a championship before he's gone and he's willing to find a big name coach to get it done, and now twice in a row we've seen that not happen. Either he doesn't really care, at least enough to bring in the big truck full of money, or guys really don't want to go there, even for a big truck full of money. I'd guess it's somewhere in between. He obviously took an interest in the program after they showed some signs of life, he bought them shiny state of the art facilities and uses them as his personal fashion show, but beyond that what? He hasn't just done it for the football program, he did the same for the whole athletic department. It is his alma mater, he's not the first filthy rich bastard to fund new facilities for his school. At some point you have to wonder if he really cares as much as they all pretend he does.

They got to this point with Bellotti, who's basically Mike Riley 2.0 getting the ball rolling, then they happened to strike gold with Chip, who was just the noname coordinator they had groomed to take over, he bails for bigger and better things before he would have got bit for his shady recruiting practices, and then it just fell apart to what we see now. Schiano would have been a great hire for them last year if they could have landed him, but even he wouldn't have been the big splash they pretend they're after. What I'm saying is, other than some rumors, has there been any evidence that they even really are after a big name coach to bring Phil his supposedly lusted after championship?

Right? He was already named the interim guy for bowl season, they could have taken some more time if they wanted. Obviously recruiting plays a part, but they weren't gonna save this class, guys were gonna decommit regardless, figuring out their coach woes is way more important to their future than salvaging a few recruits.

We're about to find out how successful Chip can truly be cause during his run with Oregon as HC, both USC and Washington were not in the picture. The only real competition he had to deal with was Stanford and a so/so UCLA. That was it. The PAC was historically bad during those years. He had the PAC title gift wrapped every year. Well not anymore. Sure he's gonna be able to recruit easier, but the PAC as a whole is way more competitive. Even WSU is getting to bowl games and beating good teams.

He's now going to be facing a full strength USC every year and Washington at full strength with Petersen's coaching the years we get UCLA during the regular season. Now were going to see what these programs can do against his tempo and gimmicks.

He's still got it easy for 2018 with Huskies, USC, and Stanford all having to play at the Rose Bowl, but we'll see how well the magic man handles those defenses.

The NFL was able to adjust to his gimmicks. I honestly wonder if his magic is gone.

I don't know, I didn't follow that closely, but from what I remember, he did pretty okay until he got full control and made a bunch of fucky moves, he made Nick Foles look like a good NFL for fucks sake. I even remember @mcnabb7542 having a "chips not so bad" sig at one point.

That said, his Oregon magic is gone for sure, everyone copied it, teams figured out how to stop it, or at least slow it down enough to not be so explosive. But I think the bit of success he had in the NFL shows he can adjust too. He's never had to build his system though, he hit the ground running with Oregon, he notoriously doesn't like recruiting, he did weird shit with gm powers in the NFL, so how he'll put them together will be interesting.

Chip is good at game planning and working against any perceived weakness on a defense. There isn't nearly as many weaknesses in the NFL as there are on typical college teams. He's going to score points. If he just features the HUNH he's not going to find nearly as much success as he did in Oregon's early part of their run, however I do not believe he's dumb enough not to know how much adaptation there has already been.

He really won't be any worse than Mora and should improve their offense at the least.

If anything I would ask who he hired as DC and if he's letting them recruit their kind of guys for their defensive schemes?

I also believe he learn a lot in the NFL, ( and I don't think he's done with it just yet) He is a highly intelligent and patient man but ultra competitive, he hates losing and he will fast track anything to get the "W".....

Nice listen on how the sportsbooks are approaching this game.
