It's funny how folks wanted to fire him after year 2.... I said the moment he was hired, he needed 5-7. It's nice to see the in state talent actually stay!

I was firmly in the camp last year he needed to show serious improvement, and if not, then maybe put him on the hot seat. Improvement was shown and more than I expected.

People forget A. How bare cupboard was from Tubby. B. Richard wanted totally different style of players.

Really like the direction of the program. Pitino has us in great shape to be a consistent top 25 program for the next 3-4 years. And with that type of consistency, we'll be able to continue to get really solid players on the recruiting trail and continue this thing.

2-0 on season, win against Providence should end being a nice win on the record.

#resumebuilder

Providence should be a tourney team, come March.

That was no slouch, and to get the win on the road? :yahoo:

Without looking, I think they have 3 or 4 more games like this in B4 the B1G season begins. If they can get through with only 1 loss, easily a top 10 team come conference play.

Providence, IMO was the 2nd best team we'll play in OOC, with Miami being best. To win that is really impressive. I'm worried still about winning at Arkansas because they are a completely different team home/away. Going 2-1 in those games wouldn't be anything to worry over. At that point we'll finish OOC play with just one loss, and considering we get Rutgers and Nebraska as those first 2 B1G games in early December we could be looking at a 14-1(2-0) record at worst come the New Year.

I didn't get to watch the game, but 'Bama ended the game with 3 players?

Yup, their bench was thrown out for leaving bench, then injury and foul out

Their pg kept hitting contested 3s and mn was trying to run clock

I don't worry about what happened at the end. What matters is how they played when it was still 5 on 5.

Another great chance for the Gophers tonight. As long as Miami doesn't get hot beyond the 3, I like our chances in The Barn.

I don't know if it says anything about the state of the B10 in bball.... but so far, they're 1-6 in the B10/ACC Challenge...

It's ours for the taking, although getting past MSU will be tough

No shame in losing 86-81 to #10 team in country. 2nd half was definitely frustrating at times and our lack of depth is evident (get well soon dupree).

Washington needs to play more within the offense, he forced too much

Would be nice if Hurt could contribute something

Yeah... they definitely missed Dupree last night. They never let it get out of control, but they were never really in it, though.

Might be semantics, but we were in it all game but could never take control. Especially in second half really struggled to get key stops. In addition Miami got some good bounces (25 foot banked 3, lose ball that could've been a turnover, but turned into easy lay up)....Miami kept answering, but we pressed them all game. But we only lead very briefly.

Yeah.... But it never felt like the momentum was turning in our favor. Down 7 early to start both halves... only to claw back. Control is a good word. They never got it.

No having Pree was significant in this game. Agree with both your other points. I thought we played well the last 8 minutes of the 2nd half. Miami made some contested jumpers along with some other lucky bounces. Game was there for the taking, Miami just made a couple more shots at the end of the day. The game against Arkansas is huge. We gotta get that. If not we'll be looking at an OOC RPI of 50+. If we win that one, we'll be sitting with an OOC RPI in the top 50, which we gotta have since the B1G is so down this year.
