Yeah idk if the Sox and Giants are a match. Neither one should probably be making that deal.
Yeah I agree. I was looking at what the Giants might offer. If the Sox want to trade JBJ I think he should part of a larger package. And even then, they would be selling low.

Unless the name starting with Bum...I'm not interested.

Sox infield D already isnt' good.

The OF D is a key staple of this team.

Certainly not great... an 0-4 in the WS with a 5.67 ERA is not good at all, even if his WHIP and advanced stats are good...

I find that the biggest problem with advanced stats is that it ignores the MOST important thing... results... does it matter if a pitcher had an amazing game and then gets unlucky in one inning?? no, they still let up the runs, and they still got the loss...

His career postseason numbers are very good... but certainly not great, postseason is where players step up... But he has definitely been subpar in the most important playoff games... I just can not give him a playoff bonus... and the enigma of Verlander is that he is known to be a great big time pitcher, but his playoff numbers don't show that IMO... I really think that hurts him...

He is one of those where I need to wait to see how he ends his career before I can make a judgement... Just not sold on him...

Are you really calling ERA an advanced stat? Lol.

Looks to me like you mistyped. Read the last sentence, it sounds to me like you were talking about ERA.

also, you have to put postseason stats into context. These pitchers are usually facing the top offenses in the league. A 3.07 ERA in the postseason isn't the same as a 3.07 ERA in the regular season where they're facing some of the worst offenses in the league.

His World Series performances leave a bit to be desired, but he's played a huge role in some of his teams getting to the WS in the first place (sub-3 ERA in LDS/LCS). He pitched pretty well in this WS and he only gave up 9 runs in 36.2 innings over the 2017 postseason.

Sure, no doubt it is harder... But context is only useful if there is no history for the other side... What I mean, we all know playoff teams are better, you are SUPPOSED to have a worse ERA/WHIP whatever... but you see all the time pitchers stepping up, and actually doing BETTER in their small sample... there are many GREAT playoff pitchers that we set the bar for who is a good playoff pitcher... Verlander is well below the bar...

Bradon Belt being bandied about, which IMO would be a steal for the Sox and save them $$$$ on Hosmer

I like Belt. If they were to trade JBJ, I would have to think JD Martinez would be coming here. But then you have Belt on a 4-year deal of $17 million+. I'm thinking they would rather just sign Moreland to a 2-year deal, sign JD, and then see if there are any bites on JBJ.

LOL Bumgarner for JBJ. Maybe we should throw in Belt just in case.

Don't be obtuse.

I never said straight up.

But there's no one else on the Giants roster that does enough for me to deal JBJ.

Maybe if Belt had a similar contract.

I'd still be interested in Belt, but not for a price of JBJ.

I think Mike Mussina without a Cy Young Award should be in the HOF

I agree,

I think Verlander gets in on the first ballot though. It helps that he was the man in Detroit, while Mussina was one of many stars on that team

Close, but I think he needs a few more above average seasons or even two more seasons like 2016-2017 then he's probably a "lock". I'd probably put him in right now though, his postseason resume is strong.

I think these last two seasons make him a lock. Today's no-hitter doesn't hurt his case either.
