I got Kinsler as around #254.
Been gone for the week. Okay so you have him at 254 and Hall of Stats has him at 251. We really going to argue that?

Think about it this way. Since 1901 there are only 61 players who played 50% of their games at either 3B, SS, C, or 2B and had as many plate appearances as Kinsler with as high of an OPS+ as Kinsler.

Sometimes we forget how rare these players actually are.

While the Red Sox have been one of the teams most often linked to the massive Marlins slugger, there are too many roadblocks to consider them favorites for such a blockbuster trade.

One of those barriers is Stanton’s contract. Not only the $295 million he’s owed the next 10 years, but also the full no-trade clause that gives the right fielder total control of his ultimate destination.

A baseball source said yesterday that he’s been told Stanton will not accept a trade to either the Red Sox or the Cardinals, another team linked early and often in trade rumors. Perhaps there’s some flexibility in that stance, but Stanton’s preference is a factor.

Good. Getting Stanton would be an emotionally-driven decision.

ESPN has a cool piece

30 baseball insiders predict the FA class

25 out of 30 have JD Martinez landing in Boston (ive been fearing this since the summer)

All 30 split on Otani to the Dodgers/Yankees and Rangers

20 out of 30 have Stanton landing in St Louis

A large chunk have Hosmer in Boston also

And others, Im forgetting a lot of it

Alex Cobb basically begging the Cubs to sign him

I like the Arrietta deal, I hear they will make one big splash

Lorenzo Cain to SF is Such a Giants move....A guy getting past his prime really fast, and not the impact bat they desperately need

Apparently they are inquiring about JBJ to see if he is available for a trade.

I heard that, seems they are continually chasing the same type of "Denard Span" type players, when in reality they should be all in on the JD Martinez/Stanton impact guys

You know, I've been pretty critical in the past of how they run their team, but ultimately, it's tough to argue with guys that have won three of the last eight World Series.

thing is, while Santana had a better 5 year peak, I don't think it's that much better and he's only had one season outside of that with 170+ innings. There's a lot of time missed whereas Verlander's made 30+ starts in 11 of his 13 seasons and 200+ innings in ten seasons. Unlike Santana whereas a good chunk of his career value is tied to his peak, Verlander's put together nine 4+ WAR seasons. Not to mention Santana's 2004-08 stretch accounted for more than half of his MLB innings.

Santana should probably be in because of his peak, he was probably the best pitcher in baseball for at least three years, maybe four. However, I think Verlander's added more career value especially if you account for the postseason.

Can you reward him for pitching in the postseason when he is hasn't been a great playoff pitcher?? Can you give him the credit for being a big time pitcher with his post season numbers??

Certainly not great... an 0-4 in the WS with a 5.67 ERA is not good at all, even if his WHIP and advanced stats are good...

I find that the biggest problem with advanced stats is that it ignores the MOST important thing... results... does it matter if a pitcher had an amazing game and then gets unlucky in one inning?? no, they still let up the runs, and they still got the loss...

His career postseason numbers are very good... but certainly not great, postseason is where players step up... But he has definitely been subpar in the most important playoff games... I just can not give him a playoff bonus... and the enigma of Verlander is that he is known to be a great big time pitcher, but his playoff numbers don't show that IMO... I really think that hurts him...

He is one of those where I need to wait to see how he ends his career before I can make a judgement... Just not sold on him...

For sure, I have massive respect for Bochy and how they run things, but seems they are trying now to put a band aid on a gaping wound....I hear they have nothing in the minors, so either rebuild completely, or go all in on Poseys' final prime seasons, cause guys like Span, JBJ (for Belt is the latest rumors), Cain, those arent the guys that will make an impact IMO

I hear that but at the expense of Brandon Belt, one of their few impact bats?

I could see grabbing JBJ if they were to also sign JD or get Stanton

But losing a bat like Belt for JBJ, I dont see much of an impact on wins and losses their

Oh, I hear you, and I'm not saying I like the moves they make; I'm just not going to talk about it until they suck for a while.

Yeah idk if the Sox and Giants are a match. Neither one should probably be making that deal.
