The thing with the Sherm injury is he's never had anything this sever so while people will doubt him to be able to come back from this, I'm sure he'll be out to prove the doubters wrong and rehab his ass off to get back on the field.

Sherm is far from done. I don't think people realize how smart of a player he is. He isn't the fastest, quickest, can't jump the highest but he can cover with them best of them. He will bounce back and he will be with the team next year. I'm not so sure after next year tho. He will need a new contract and it's hard for a player to take a pay cut with the same team, but then again JS likes one upyear veteran deals.

also it wasn't a complete tear i do believe, if it was a complete tear he wouldn't have been walking around on it. I think he will be fine but this hurts his value if the Hawks were going to look for a trade once again this offseason.

Tom Brady really likes Sherman, Brady would lobby for him...
I'm pretty sure that's camera talk? After Sherm chased him across the field for the infamous "you mad bro quote" I think any chance at man love ended there. Does he have a mutual respect for Sherman probably. Lobbying for him is a different story.

Like drugs, just say no.

On a personal note I don't think Sherm would be able to handle the BB discipline unless it was his last shot.

I don't think Sherm is going anywhere but who knows. It would be nice to free up some money to strengthen the offense. I would love to see Duane Brown in a Hawks uni for at least a couple more years, possibly 3 while RW is at his peak and also get some more talent on the line and at RB. I don't know what the answer is. I just don't want to waste the talent of Russell Wilson or see him hurt because all the eggs are in the defensive basket, so to speak.

Starting a thread about this for a number of obvious reasons.

During the offseason, the Seahawks were considering trading him away. Additionally, he now will be battling a ruptured achilles. I'm unsure what the recovery looks like on that, but on a guy who relies so much on his quickness, I think it's pertinent to mention that he might not be able to fully recover. He will be 30 next year, and he is a hell of a competitor, but it's worth wondering if his contract is something worth looking at next offseason.

In 2018 he is due $13.2m, and the Seahawks would save $11m by cutting him. This is something I believe may be seriously considered. I worry that his ego is too big to be willing to take a pay cut, and he make take it as an insult if the Seahawks are willing to cut him while he's still recovering from an injury.

If he's unwilling to restructure, it may be prudent to re-evaluate his contract status, and I think that's something the Seahawks may do.

Are we sure there are no injury guarantees on his salary next year? Because that could make this whole discussion moot.

I don't think Sherman would have any problem with Belichick. He knows Belichick would put the team in the best position to win.

I think he's definitely a goner. Seattle stocked up a TON on secondary this last draft and the team seriously needs to start spending some money on younger more viable positions. It's absolutely ridiculous we lock up nearly $50M (or whatever it is) in the secondary and then $20M+ at QB and allow him to be constantly destroyed behind a shit line.

Even Sheldon Richardson needs to be resigned and he wont be cheap. Richard Sherman was great... when he cost $1M a season. I think Seattle can get something for Sherman but it wont be much... like a 4th/5th rounder at this point. Few teams are going to take on that much cost especially after he tore his ACL.

The bolded is a joke, right? Sherman has been great, period.

Do you really think BB would allow Sherman to flap his gums freely like he does now? Do you really think BB would tolerate Sherman arguing with coaches or publicly calling out team mates?

Or do you think Sherman would be able to keep his mouth shut and just do his job?

I'm all for working an extension to push off some of that '18 cap hit so Sherm can come back and play out the rest of his prime in Seattle. We've seen DBs play at a high level beyond the age of 30, and Sherm isn't a guy who is good because of his speed/quickness so I don't see his play dropping as he loses a step. His size/length, smarts, and aggressiveness makes him a HOF corner. He's got lots of good football left, and hopefully it's in Seattle.

What has that remotely got to do with 'personal note?'

Please release him let him come to the dark side.
We have really good top notch doctors and hospitals in New England.
The pay sucks but the jewelry is really nice.
They will help "put a ring on it".

That said I don't think there is any way the Hawks part with him.

Um, it's hard to say though, Brady is competitive and when Seattle play's the Pats he avoids throwing Shermans way big time, outta respect ... Sherman also showed good sportsmanship after the loss in Super-Bowl 49, went out of his way to shake his hand... Brady knows that would be a big upgrade to the Pats secondary.... But I think Sherman will be in Seattle personally, even though he's getting a bit older now he still has 3-4 good years left...

Ermm I meant great for the team. He's so expensive now with the safeties as well, that we can barely afford an O-Line to help Wilson out... $13M+ against the cap for a corner is a tough pill to swallow...

But I guess Graham is going away (likely) and hopefully we free up some cash with Lane to get some signings going. I'll obviously take Sherman at $13M over Graham at $10M.

I think any talk of Sherman's remaining time with the Seahawks being short is much like the talk of Thomas' career being over after he got hurt last year. Granted, Thomas himself started that conversation by suggesting he would retire, but it was an emotional reaction to the first major injury of his career so he gets a pass. Yes, Sherman makes a lot of money, money that could probably go to several offensive linemen, and yes, he's had his share of cringe-worthy moments off the field, but he's one of the main reasons why this team has been as successful as it has been since he came into the league.

A time will come when the conversation about whether he's still worth keeping at whatever price he's being paid will need to be addressed, but I don't think that now is that time. He's still in his prime (not taking into account any residual effects this injury might have on him going forward, of course), he's one of the leaders on this team and he's been one of the best corners, if not the best corner, in the league since his first full season. It's too soon to have this conversation.

It really all depends on how the rest of the season plays out. People will say that he isnt worth the money he is getting paid but that narrative will change if teams passing game starts throwing up and down the field on us attacking shermans replacement. If our defense still looks pretty solid after his injury than its an easier decision on what management should do moving forward with him.
