Starting a thread about this for a number of obvious reasons.

During the offseason, the Seahawks were considering trading him away. Additionally, he now will be battling a ruptured achilles. I'm unsure what the recovery looks like on that, but on a guy who relies so much on his quickness, I think it's pertinent to mention that he might not be able to fully recover. He will be 30 next year, and he is a hell of a competitor, but it's worth wondering if his contract is something worth looking at next offseason.

In 2018 he is due $13.2m, and the Seahawks would save $11m by cutting him. This is something I believe may be seriously considered. I worry that his ego is too big to be willing to take a pay cut, and he make take it as an insult if the Seahawks are willing to cut him while he's still recovering from an injury.

If he's unwilling to restructure, it may be prudent to re-evaluate his contract status, and I think that's something the Seahawks may do.

Think perhaps both might be willing to do a deal that helps both parties. If not...business is business and both move on.

Hopefully.

I'd really like to see Sherm with the Hawks next year. I'm not a huge fan of the shit talk, but I love his play on the field. I'm unsure how he rebounds from this injury, but from what I've heard it can be pretty bad.

It's very easy to see him being offended by the Hawks wanting to restructure.

Maybe, but I think he's a realist and Seattle is his home so we'll see.

This will definitely be an interesting scenario, especially if the Hawks defense does well w/out Sherman...

I think he's definitely a goner. Seattle stocked up a TON on secondary this last draft and the team seriously needs to start spending some money on younger more viable positions. It's absolutely ridiculous we lock up nearly $50M (or whatever it is) in the secondary and then $20M+ at QB and allow him to be constantly destroyed behind a shit line.

Even Sheldon Richardson needs to be resigned and he wont be cheap. Richard Sherman was great... when he cost $1M a season. I think Seattle can get something for Sherman but it wont be much... like a 4th/5th rounder at this point. Few teams are going to take on that much cost especially after he tore his ACL.

but on a guy who relies so much on his quickness,

What?

one thing Sherman is not, is quick. He relies on his length and smarts to make up for his LACK of quickness. He is a strider who can close ground on balls in the air with that ability but he is susceptible to the quick passing where a player makes a quick move 3 to 5 yards from the LoS.

really shocked no one else caught this.

Sherm will likely retire a Seahawk. Hopefully it won't be next year.

Well you an I agree on this at least.

Somebody from the LOB is gone for $ reasons. Will it be Sherman? The injury makes it more likely. But if he comes back physically from it, his smarts and skillset make it likely he could still be an effective CB.

But good grief people. He's been the BEST cb in the NFL since he came in.

Joining that long list of elite Hawks CB's from the past, like.... uhm....

oh yeah, right.

Shawn Springs. Dave Brown. Sherm has been better than them. He's a Hall of Famer. But they were both really good.

I like Sheldon Richardson a lot and believe he's a very talented player, but Naz Jones and Jarran Reed have both played very well this season as well. Reed was pretty mediocre last year, but this year apparently he did something with his diet and has really stepped up his game.

With the ruptured achilles, I doubt that Sherman really fetches anything on the trade market. Teams would know they could land him if we just cut him.

When you take a cornerback who was already limited in his quickness and reduce that ability even more, you're going to be in an even tougher position.

I can't stand the guy and don't want his selfish attitude in NE. He's a me first guy no room for that on a NE team. Luckily I don't have a vote. I would not not take him at the league minimum.

Having said that there could be something to this. BB has had his issues with selecting DBs. Butler is coming due and he'll command a hefty contract. NE already has a lot of money tied up in Gilmore. Also BB has no issues signing players who have had lower leg operations. Not sure why he's been burnt enough on it? But Sherm who's respected by BB (at least that's what he tells the media). Coming off injury and at the right price could be Butler's replacement?

I hope not this has the making of Haynesworth part II. OK maybe not that bad but I wasn't a fan of that signing either.

Heh. Why'd you sign that tight end who quits on teams then?

Because he's talented? Naaaah.

Too funny

As much as I love Sherman for he will always have a place in my memories for that tip that take us to the Super Bowl I think it's time we say goodbye to him. I'm afraid of the injuries and age get up to him we're going to see more and more outburst that we did last year as he gets beat causing more additional friction within the locker room and I say end that before it has a chance to begin
