I think if we all plan to project the 2018 season based on the fact that it looks like a third of MLB players are free agents this week, well ... good luck with that.

Giants have basically no money to spend...

I pick the Giants for at best 3rd in the NL West...

There are a whole lot of players on the FA market this year that have to play somewhere.
Either that or the Japanese leagues are going to suddenly be damned well stocked.

Honestly, that's a pretty weak list. JD Martinez maybe? Cain (but he's old for a long term deal)?

Pipe dream but I would love Moustakas and Hosmer on the Mets. Instead they'll roll with Dom Smith at first and probably sign Todd Frazier.

they're better off rolling with Smith if you ask me. Hosmer has a career 111 OPS+... I think Smith is capable of matching that (albeit probably not in 2018), if not do better.

Dude that is about a third of the list. This board wouldn't let me paste the whole thing. How weak it is really isn't the point. It isn't like there are a bunch of Kris Negrons or Ramon Cabreras on there.

These are MLB players who aren't going to retire and they can't all be DFA. What the fuck? A week list. Half the Cubs rotation is leaving the team, and more than a third of the entire KC starting lineup is a FA. Cleveland is going to need to replace its bullpen. Not like the Indians really are any good, so who cares?

A weak list?

it may not be a weak list, but I think there's a lot of question marks around the top free agents IMO (Darvish, Arrieta, Moustakas, Hosmer, Bruce, Cobb/Lynn).

I'm hoping to see my Red Sox go for 1 of the Kansas City guys, there's some solid players in the bunch, be interesting to see where they all end up.

I think Hosmer to the Red Sox is an absolute lock, some things make too much sense

My greatest fear is that JD Martinez ends up in Boston, that guy is a true difference maker in that ballpark IMO

As for the Yankees, I hope they land Otani, who as of today is officially coming to MLB

And I really would love Alex Cobb who i read was the Texas Rangers top priority this offseason

2 years removed from his TJ surgery, and AL East tested, I think Cobb is gonna be a great get

Wow, Cozart picked the right time to have a career year. I didn't realize he was 32 years old

I gotta wonder if Arrieta is a good 'get' but I suppose it depends on a team's needs. He is likely overpriced. Darvish would be a nice signing.

his command issues over the last two seasons are red flags IMO. He's seen his K/9 and GB% dip a bit (still decent), but he averaged around 5 2/3 IP per start last year. Still a pretty good pitcher, but I don't see him coming close to his 2014-15 success. He threw 14 wild pitches in those two seasons combined... he's thrown 30 over the last two years.

no thx on jd mart

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that teams that have reached out to J.D. Martinez get the impression agent Scott Boras is looking for a deal in the $200 million range.

Martinez just hired Boras last week, and he's already making waves. The lofty asking price is really no surprise, considering Martinez slugged .690 and hit 45 homers in 119 games this past season between Detroit and Arizona. Whether or not Martinez gets anywhere near $200 million will depend on how much a team is willing to overlook his flawed defense. Because of his prodigious right-handed power, the 30-year-old corner outfielder is guaranteed to be one of the highest paid players this winter.

He will probably be more in the $150 range, and only the Sox, Rangers or Dodgers would come up with that scratch

I hope he doesnt go there, i think he would be the AL MVP in Fenway

It's just weird that J.D. is projected to have such a large contract after fetching little at the trade deadline.
