Under the new men’s format, teams will play seven opponents twice and six teams once (three home, three away) in a given season. The three in-state rivalries – Illinois/Northwestern, Indiana/Purdue and Michigan/Michigan State – will be played twice annually, while the new schedule will also include a regional component to increase the frequency of games among teams in similar areas. Over the course of a six-year cycle (12 playing opportunities), in-state rivals will play each other 12 times, regional opponents will play 10 times, and all other teams will play nine times.

So who gets the 2 wins vs Rutgers every year???

Rutgers....and Penn State. Pretty sure Maryland fans like playing Penn State in football, but I'd be amazed if Penn State moved the needle for them in men's basketball.

Michigan top 5 possibly top 4 looks likely. It's pretty much MSU's conference, unless they massively underachieve.

Andy Katz is now with the Big Ten Network. Pretty good pickup by the BTN.

I obviously don't know the details of their contracts, but from afar, keeping someone like Jeff Goodman over Andy Katz is just dumb. Goodman comes across as unprofessional on social media, and he routinely has terrible opinions.

Agreed, my guess would be Katz made significantly more money, which is why they let him go. In general I was pretty bummed with who they let go for CBB. I have basically no reason to go to espn.com for anything CBB related unless it's to look at scores. All the written stuff and podcasts I go to cbs sports. I love reading/listening to Gary Parrish.

Interesting year for the Badgers. They lost all but one of their starters which is Happ who is a top candidate for POY in the NCAA. They will be relying heavily on 3 freshmen which never happens. Also these three freshmen round out their best recruiting class ever and all are top 100 players.

They're also returning Pritzel and Van Vilet who are offensive gods but didn't put to much work into anything else until late in the season and worked hard this off season. The coach said those two look like the most improved players on the court. Pritzel scored 28 vs an Austrailian pro team a few weeks back and Van Vilet the 7 foot three point specialist appeared to be well rounded in comparison to last season.

I can see this team starting off as a top 4 BIG team and then competing for the #1/#2 spot in the end of the season and making the sweet 16 again and maybe surprise some people and make the elite 8. So far their 2 week tour in Australia and New Zealand vs pro teams went very well and the freshmen look like veterans out their already.

I'm not hyped up for the championship like I thought we would win in 2015 but it feels like the 2014 season when we made the final four and knowbody knew who the hell the Badgers were that year.

You have to give Wisconsin the benefit of the doubt until the results say otherwise.

Yeah buddy, they've been top four in the BIG every year for like a decade now and in the sweet 16 or higher for five years running. They're very young but have a national player of the year candidate in Happ and their most talented class of freshmen ever.

I watched their Red vs White Scrimmage and wasn't let down. Kobe King looks like an NBA body out there at 6'5" 205 lbs. Dude is a scoring and rebounding machine with excellent defense. Davidson also has an NBA body at 6'3" 185 lbs. He's also a good scorer and great facilitator and leader. Van Vilet the 7 ft 3 point specialist finally looks like he's arrived. It took Kaminsky two years before he arrived well VV is on that same path. He's not just draining three's and can actually rebound and defend now so he will get some minutes. We already know what we got in Happ, the dunk machine in Iverson, the big body in Charlie Thomas and others. Another dude that looks like a highly improved all around player is Pritzl. Dude was a four star that missed his first season from an injury and slowly progressed in his last year coming back from the injury. Now the coaches are very pleased with his performance vs professional teams in Austrialia and New Zealand. Dude scored 28 points in one game but it wasn't just his scoring they were raving about. They liked that he demonstrated he's more than just a scorer like he was last year.

Starting lineup:

Center: Happ ( 6'10" 240 lbsBIG POY potential NCAA POY and defensive stud) Backup Charlie Thomas who crushes players
PF: Van Vilet ( 7 ft 230 lbs Dirk Nowitzki draining three's and getting boards) Backup is freshman Nathan Ruevers (Minnesota Mr. Basketball good shooter with good defense and a top 100 player) He'll get some minutes this year but not quite as much as the other two elite freshmen.
SF: Iverson (6'5" 215 lbs dunking machine but developing his all around game) Ford (Don't know much about him)
SG: Brevin Pritzl ( 6'4" 190 lbs Mr. basketball 2015 out of Wisconsin 4 star player great scorer) Backup Freshmen Kobe King 6'5" and might become the starter at the SF position to put the best players all on the court. He was named Mr. Basketball in Wisconsin last year. I'd enjoy to see those two on the court at the same time.
PG: Tough decision Brad Davidson (6'3" 205 lbs looks like a veteran starter already and is very polished. He appears to be a more athletic version of Josh Gasser (Mr. Triple Double)). Trice ( the Sophomore was supposed to be the starter but I think Davidson wins it over. Trice is a great shooter but just an average college player in terms of play making skills.

Weakness: No experience. Outside of Trice and Happ no other players had any minutes starting games. They appear talented when they won all their 6 games vs professional teams in Australia and New Zealand and looked great vs each other today but have yet to show up vs NCAA division I teams at the moment. I believe the pro tour helped them out significantly as will the few preseason games (secret scrimmage vs Missouri next week).

SF looks like a weakness as Iverson has improved but doesn't appear like he'll ever be the 12 ppg and 7 reb a game guy we need him to be. I think if Kobe King gets that spot at SF he can average at least those numbers already as a freshman.

Depth: Charlie Thomas is a defensive presence and appears to have dramatically improved his offensive skills at Center with 14 points tonight. Kobe/Iverson and Trice will be solid off the bench. After that there's nobody proven. I hope at least one more guy that can contribute solid minutes off the bench. It could be the freshman Reuvers at PF who has the talent but is still a ? at the moment.

after seeing them tonight I'll say they end up at the #4 spot in the BIG after starting off slow. They'll end up as a 9 seed and make the sweet 16 again.

Badgers lost 5 star recruit 6'5" SG Tyler Hero. Dude looked nasty on youtube vids and just decided to decommit. WTF????? Why would you decommit from a championship contender that has a track record of developing kids and making them pro's??? Huge mistake by this kid and I feel he will regret this decision for the rest of his life.

Badgers lost out on two in state five star players now at the PF position and SG position for 2018. IDK how in the F this is happening. It's not like we're just playing terrible. I mean they have great academics, accommodations, weight room and facilities, excellent team and a winning culture. Something smells fishy here. I think money is being slipped under the table for these kids. I guess that's what happens sometimes when you abide by the rules all the time. Oh well, their loss.

Apparently, there had been rumors about a possible decommitment from Herro since the summer. Pretty interested to see where he ends up now.

Outside of Dekker, Wisconsin generally misses getting the elite in state kids to go there. Missed out on Vander Blue, JP Tokoto, Kevon Looney, Diamond Stone, Henry Ellenson, and now the 2018 kids. Honestly the system probably hinders elite talent to reach their potential, even though Wisconsin generally does a good job of developing lesser rated kids.

Huh?? Dekker and Kaminsky are pros but it's not like Wisco is known for getting guys to the league lol.

He left to go Blue Blood. Schools that churn out pros every single year

That's encouraging. Any news on how Washington and Hurt played?

I didn't get much of a report but based off the box score

Washington has 11 and 4 in 16 minutes. 1/2 from 3 and made his freebies.

Hurt was 0/1 in 10 minutes.

Lynch had a great game. Also Murphy and Mason too but that's more expected on O

Thanks for the update. Hurt needs to step up if this team wants to take the next step forward.

It seems the last few years we've had elite talent then last second they change their minds. This reaks of foul play here.

They do a great job of developing any level of player. However, the system prevents a player from averaging 25 ppg with few offensive posessions
