I think I am pretty much done with this forum. It never yielded much though the people who do contribute are a lot of fun. If you want to stay up on Reds baseball, I recommend

a Cincinnati Reds community

I enjoy posting here. Everyone here has always been respectful of others. None of that 7th grade and below crap that you get on some other sites. I regret that I got sucked up in that garbage rather than just ignoring it, way more than I would want to admit. But this has been a good place to post about the Reds and get away from the everyday shit of what's going on out in the real world.

Playoffs has started. Yankees stay. Twins, will wait till next year. Doesn't seem right, that you work all season to accomplish getting to the playoffs. and you are gone in one game. One bad inning can cost you. I'd like to see best 2 out of 3.
Does anyone know how many road teams has won these one game playoffs?

I don't like the one game play in scenario either. I'd rather see an even number of teams (4 or 8) make the post season and every team play right away. I've never cared for bye weeks or off days as the MLB now has. But a lot of the off days can be attributed to the player's union who care even less about the fans than the MLB.

The Twins had the number 1 pick in June and made the post season. If you're the weakest team last year, how do you legitimately make the playoffs the following year? Injuries and assorted misfortune can make any team have a bad year. But if you're picking number 1 you're supposed to be more than one off season away from contending.

Teams should be penalized for intentionally tanking to improve draft position.

I enjoy following the off season. The roster transactions, winter mtg. trades, it's all part of the process.

The next business up for the Reds will be roster house cleaning. They'll have to cut a couple off the 40 man roster to make room for the 60 DL guys. They may cut a couple more to add a couple rule 5 eligible players. I haven't looked to see who is eligible this season.

A few guys that were left unprotected last December actually appeared in games for the Reds this seadon.... which is pretty sad.

Farrell, Chacin and Wojo are gone now.

We can add 2012 1st round pick Nick Travieso to the list. He had shoulder surgery and didn't pitch this year. Not that uncommon to see teams DFA injured players assuming another team won't claim them.

The other three names are what you would expect. Of the four players put on waivers, only Luke Farrell was claimed, the rest were outrighted to Louisville. So they're off the 40 man, but not necessarily gone. Wojo and Chacin can elect free agency. Travieso doesn't qualify unless the Reds release him.

Travieso will be a FA about the time the Reds realize he throws 83 mph and should be in indy ball.
Wojo and Chacin will both find work. Most pitchers who don't have sore arms can find work. Hell if Blake Wood can get signed, anybody has a chance.

Yeah....
Travieso's expiration date has most likely accelerated with shoulder surgery.

He's been dropping on the top 30 prospect list prior to surgery. Whether that was at least partially related to being injured, I'm not sure. He hasn't overly impressed since A ball, so he needed to step it up entering 2017 to remain relevant. I don't think he improved his odds being injured the full season.

Being a life long buckeye I'll root for the Indians as my default team. I could care less about Cleveland any other time.

It's been an offensive laden playoffs the first 4 games. It's not coincidence, it's what the MLB wanted to entice fans with the attention span of puppies.

There are still new fans that attend games for the Love of the Game, but a much higher % are preoccupied with selfies, facebook, the wave, and obstructing real fans enjoyment of the game.

Nick Senzel has been voted the Reds minor league player of the year. Tyler Mahle gets the nod as the pitcher of the year.

Senzel was a no brainer through pedigree and performance.

Tyler Mahle has risen through performance. Scouts had rated him below average since being drafted and now all of a sudden he's a top 100 MLB prospect. They rated Sal Romano the same way and now they think he's a stud as well.

It's hard to understand how some of these baseball talent pronosticators keep their jobs. I guess striking out has become universally acceptable.

I think this year may be the worse year for this type of thing. People screaming through the game for no apparent reason. This is annoying to me, but others say they are just having fun. I don't hear that when the Reds are on the road. So this must be a Cincinnati thing. If they like Screaming so much why not go down to the river bank very far away from the stadium, and scream away..

My experiences with MLB are generally limited to the times I go to Wrigley and I can't afford that anymore, plus I don't do night games there owing to transportation concerns on the back end of it. Not much about Wrigley isn't fun (or was before they decided to charge a fee for using the sidewalk!) and the fans are more tolerable than we are often led to believe. (The drunks are not in the majority now.)

Lots of fans know nothing about baseball but I don't know if that's really a new thing. Seems like it's been that way for 10 years or more, ever since the trend to new ballparks has been toward food. Sounds like that's about all there is to GABP now, according to Jim Day. He goes on and on about the new areas that have been set up for people who'd rather text and drink craft beer.

A thought on the scouts and the players. I think maybe we'd be better off if we stopped rating prospects. No team calls up its farm system anyhow. You look for a Bruce or a Castillo in the pile of rocks. At times, a Mahle emerges (rarely, but at times, a Votto) but I gotta see more than some Pensacola numbers on him first.

Senzel appears to be automatic, as was Winker, who probably benefited from the extra few months in the minors. Senzel needs to prove he can hit AAA pitching, which is probably a little more difficult every day than twice a week.

Still if the plan is to shift Suarez back to SS, that means another few months of transition on the infield. Suarez learned to play 3B but he was terrible at SS.

I don't think it's necessarily that the average fan is less knowledgeable today, it's that they have more options and divide their attention accordingly.

The only options I require at the ball park are mustard or ketchup.

Yeah, they get attention deficit disorder I think now. When it gets quiet over 15 seconds, some tech guy in the sound room plays 'EVERYBODY CLAP YOUR HANDS' and like Pavlov's dog, they all clap. The Day-O thing really gets me. Maybe if the umpires danced between innings .... dunno .... I go for the game, stay for the babes.

I haven't been to a game in a few years. It's hard to find someone to go with me any more. . And it just wares me out going by myself. It's 3 and a half hours one way. Plus if you watch it on TV. You can always turn it off after those 8 run innings.

I feel very fortunate to live less than 10 miles from GABP. Between that, radio, Fox Sports, and the MLB At Bat app on my phone it's easy to follow the Reds home or away.

There is only a few radio stations in this area that carry the Reds (Athens Ohio area) There used to be a lot, but Reds on radio is not as popular as it once was. Unfortunately.

At one time I wanted to move to Cincinnati just so I could go to the Reds games. That's not something I want to do anymore. Pittsburgh is about the same distance as Cincinnati.
If a person wanted to travel. There is a lot of MLB ballparks within a days drive from Ohio. About 9, Some you would have to leave pretty early in the morning to make game time, and but it's possible
