Candelario is going to be a nice all around player.

I'm not sure how much more youth will be around to start the season though. Stewart in left makes sense to me, but he hasn't played AAA yet. I think we're gonna have to wait for pitching that might impress.

I think the new pitching coach, could change that.

One has to wonder about the thought process that comes to the determination that changing the pitching coach (or the hitting coach, or the fielding coach, or the manager) will transform a bad staff/team into a good one. I would think if there were coaches/managers out there that could do that....they would be worth a salary commensurate with the top stars of the game. In reality a new Detroit pitching coach will be paid less than Dixon Machado.
Teams that have talent win....those that don't have it will not. Coaches may add or subtract in small amounts, but what is that saying? They can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear?

I honestly don't.

There is very little MLB worthy talent until we get down to AA. The Buck Farmers of the world don't disappoint because of coaching. They just make it to the majors because of what organization theyre employed by.

I think 29 pitchers toed the hill for us this year. Crazy.

I think Ausmus would have a really good handle on reading pitchers, but does he have the ability to make moves even tough he may piss someone off. I think Ausmus biggest problem was that he was trying to please everyone ... it ain't happening. That said onto the coaches ...

Many players credit coaches for helping them iron out patterns, deliveries or attitudes that help them improve their game. Pitching under recent Tigers' season has sucked, it could be a result of bad scouting or bad coaching. Sometimes a change will bring about the little changes that help you win games.

The Tigers this year just seemed to be a team out of control this year, I saw a lot of poorly executed baseball this year from our Tigers. A trip back to fundamentals, discipline and better coaching can make a difference. Will they overtake the Indians ... I wouldn't bet on it, but it is a step in the right direction.

It's also a result of trading everyone with high level talent. And signing guys who had their talent go down the tubes. Zimmerman and Sanchez were once talent high level MLB pitchers. They no longer are. And never will be again. It's no fault of coaching or even talent evaluation. They were talented when given their contracts. They aren't now. It happens when you're throwing around money trying to win now.

I never had an issue with how Brad ran his staff. He rode his horses and tried to put relievers in situations where they were least likely to fail. Which was still likely.

I'm sure he would've liked to use the relieve that pitched a sloppy sixth for the Dbacks yesterday. But that's out of his hands.

The staff that finished the season was made up of maybe two guys who would be on a contending roster. And Im stretching things with Alex Wilson. (That line drive sounded nasty from my seat. Had to hurt.)

I do think Norris has talent to improve on. But he needs to stay healthy to improve.

Boyd down the stretch was at his best. Not sure he can keep that constitently. And I won't put that on coaching. If he does find a groove and sticks in a rotation, I'd credit someone for helping him though.

A fresh set of eyes can do wonders for an organization. The Tigers have traded off some serious talent and replacing them wont be easy. A starting staff of Fulmer, Norris, Boyd, Zimmerman and (a pitcher to be named later) could be a good start (I am an optimist). Like I said, I am not predicting them to overtake the Indians and they may even finish is last again, but I have more hope today than I did a month ago.

We will have the worst ERA in baseball again next year imo.

Even if I get my wish and overpay a couple scabs on short contracts while we wait for youth to age.

I think our team defense could be better as a whole. That's mostly on account of not starting the worst third baseman in the game though. And depends on who is in left. Which seems like they only open spot unless Miggy, Ian, Iggy or Nick are traded during the offseason.

I plan on things getting worse before they get better tbh.

Which sucks, but I can't see how they don't.

I wouldn't overspend on anyone and Miggy won't be traded (Ian and Iggy maybe). It wouldn't be the worst thing to have an entire year of rebuilding. I like what the White Sox did and in a year or two I expect it to pay off. The Indians appear ready to own the division for a couple of years, although I am thoroughly impressed by the Minnesota Twins (an example of good coaching).

I think we hit the bottom. We need to have a cohesive organization and right now it's in Avila's hands. I have to put my faith in him because Chris Ilitch did. Let give him a chance. They are paying the price for going all in during the last stretch run. The Tigers have my support, maybe more so because they need it. So many are bandwagon fans or after the fact intellectuals.

It's Avilas ship to steer for sure.

And I think he's got a lot of steering to do before it's a competitive ship. I never wanted to see him get the job, but it's his job.(these were my comments when people were calling for Daves head a few years ago. It was obvious Al would be the replacement.) No idea if he'll have success rebuilding the franchise doing his best reverse-DD or not, I hope so. But it's going to be a tough hill to climb. I'm guessing the bottom out will be around next years deadline. Possibly less talent on the roster next AUgust/September than this past year. That's scary, but very real.

I'm a fan of Major League Baseball via the Tigers. Not because of them.

I'd like to see some sort of MLB talent in return on the guys a I listed earlier. But that will be tough considering the money that would need to be swallowed. Still, I don't see Miggy, Ian or Iggy helping the rebuild in any way but as trade chips. They could help a team looking to win now, depending on their health and how they do in 2018.

Kinsler is an interesting trade chip. Not a lot value, largely due to his position not being one of need by a lot of teams. Is he worth more as a veteran player to us or worth more as someone who might bring a decent (but not great) young player? As for Iggy....if they get a good offer, trade him and let Dixon Machado have a shot. As for the ailing Mexican???? Tell him he is the full time DH and if that is not to his liking, it is OK for his agent to work out a deal (and contract revision) for a trade.

Kinsler has said a few times that he's up for sticking it out for a rebuild. But I don't know if he means that, or if he'd like an extension or what.

Best guy in the franchise for young players to emulate imo.

I hope Jeter wants a name to fill seats down in Miami. Only NL destination I could see for Miggy. He and Castellanos both would look good in pin stripes. Flipping balls into right the right field seats.

Machado has to get a starting spot sometime next year. After all the middle infield depth that's been moved in the past few seasons, they gotta give a home grown a gig sometime, right?

He forgets that football has 4 quarters. And baseball has 9 innings.
He already thinks Indians won game 1. He forgets about 9 innings thingy

I'm sure Kinsler WANTS an extension...but they would be crazy to give him one. He will make $12 or 13 million in 2018. After the season he had, that ain't bad cash. If he has a good 2018, he might have a shot at one more contract, somewhere.
With Miggy's physical problems and age, I don't hold out much hope of someone wanting to touch that contract...unless he gives Detroit a good (and healthy) 2018. And even then......?

Doug has been all about the Indians NOT winning....I invited him to discuss the Detroit Tigers on this board (as he claims to still be a fan). Not much of a contribution.
