Fleury would have been better for the Flames than Mike Smith. He's going to be the face of the Knights though so it worked out for him I guess.

If Leblubber, Simmons and Wyshitsky were in a no-holds-barred fight to the death, the real winner would be the hockey public in the end.

I guess I'm just thinking that every single site that I read (sports or otherwise) has a writer or two that I don't like and I don't see how Lebrun writing for The Athletic will be any different than those.

Meh, I associate sites with their content producers.

I think that everyone kind of does, no? But there's an old saying about spoiled apples that I think seems appropriate here  It's not like they put Lebrun in charge of the entire operation and its content.

The Penguins must have been asking a heavy price at the time...

NEW YORK – Marc-Andre Fleury can admit now he was preparing for the possibility of becoming a Calgary Flame.

He’ll even go as far as to say that had Pittsburgh Penguins GM Jim Rutherford crafted a deal to send Fleury to the Flames at last season’s trade deadline, the 32-year-old goaltender would likely have waived the no-trade clause he has in his contract.

“I think so,” said Fleury while in New York for league meetings.

“I think Calgary is a great town and a great hockey team too. I think they’ll be very good again this year. But here I am.”
It’s hard to criticize a guy who has won 3 Cups as a GM including the last two and done so by making some rather bold moves in the trade market but you gotta think whatever Calgary were offering had to have been better than what the Pens ended up having to do to keep Vegas away from Murray.

What's hilarious about this is that I realized shortly after typing it that I actually remembered the idiom backwards. But I like the way that the Jackson 5 taught it to me rather than the way it is

Flags fly forever though. They won last year with MAF playing a significant role, and that's probably worth more than the difference in the trade returns.

Without a doubt, but just as easily could’ve dealt him after the season and gotten something for him from Calgary.

Hey, maybe Hall would settle for David Pastrnak if Ray Shero decided to toss in an offer sheet? Different players and positions I realize, but he would be a nice add.

Report: David Pastrnak could play in KHL next season
Rare it is but I thought for sure we’d see one or two OS’ thrown around this summer.

Montreal’s got all the necessary picks and is as all-in as can be at this point. They should give it a go.

I'm only mildly disappointed that I had to post this myself after referencing "Bad Apple"

Yeah, be interesting to see what happens with the Seattle team now with the allegations vs. the mayor out there.
