this:
That could push the project well over two-thirds of a billion dollars in private financing.

vs.

this:
The group has offered to amend that deal, crafted in 2012, and build the project with full private funding.
plus this:
Last week, Hansen’s group also wrote a letter to the Seattle City Council, laying out a proposal to build a privately financed $100 million renovation for KeyArena. The proposal said it could be converted into a smaller auditorium and amphitheater.

:noidea:

Everybody on Seattle City Council hates Chris Hansen

Yeah, that certainly appears to be the case. I think the SoDo location is much better than where Key Arena is located (not much parking in those Queen Anne neighborhoods).

I haven't been following closely but wasn't the issue with Hansen's project the port and its access routes? If that didn't get solved I'm guessing it's less something against him personally and more their hands were tied.

i said the above in a bit of jest ... it just seems that Hansen cant/couldnt do anything to change City Council minds ... Hansen said he was willing to pay for improving access to the arena and the port. But i think it boils down to the fact the city owns Key Arena so they had a vested interest to see that area/arena be redeveloped

Interesting watching from afar (closeby lol) how this has torn the city in alot of different directions. Fans and local media seem to be all aboard with the local boy made good Hansen. City council, big money and the Seattle Times newspaper have been on Oak view group

lots of twitter sniping amongst seattle media ... Times issued a policy saying none of their writers were going to appear on radio station KJR anymore (although they blamed the lude and lascivious (lol) nature of some of that stations prgrams :pound: )

Ive eaten alot of popcorn with each new twist lol

/@dash: not sure if you were listening to the cesspool but did Times reporter Geoff Baker sound like the Director of Communications for Oak View or what? lol

I’ll say one thing in advocacy of Tim Leiweke – in six months, he cleaned up and turned around an MLSE organization that had been a sad comedy of a sports group for over ten years. All the success the Leafs, Raptors and Toronto FC are experiencing today are thanks to his quick analysis and torching of the power structure here.

If Seattle wanted a better arena in a smarter location with locals at the helm, Hansen may have been the guy but if they want an NBA/NHL team there Leiweke is probably the guy you’re better off with.

Not listening this morning, but it just sounds like the same usual city politics when it comes to Seattle sports teams based on what I've read. Hopefully, this doesn't turn out to be a big, costly mistake.

I was gonna edit my post to add the Oak View group has locals involved too but for some reason "people" dont see them as being local enough

The Leiweke name isnt foreign in these parts (brother Tod former CEO of the Seahawks). I would hope locals have some respect for that still. If they managed to turn Seattle Center into something like LA Live that would be immense. This location isnt in the middle of nowhere. Its on the outskirts of the core. Its just the parking and public transport (and amazon office space encroachment - lol) are iffy

Joseph Cramarossa has received a PTO from the Flames - Hey, at least that's one way to prevent him from beating up Matthew Tkachuk :D

/make sure they're on the same team during intra-squad action.

Steve Simmons is sounding awfully bitter that no one wanted him to work for The Athletic. I'll quote it so that you don't have to click him.

There are a few things to say here, but the obvious one is that The National was a physical newspaper while The Athletic is a website. There are some differences in the two business models and a lot of the problems that The National had were related to those differences (no delivery service and general distribution problems, difficulty with printing and deadlines etc.).

I also like how Steve talks up Frank Deford, as if hiring a weekly magazine writer to be a daily newspaper editor was a brilliant decision. Maybe he's hoping that someone will read that and want to hire a newspaper writer to be a website editor

Signing Leblubber is hardly an addition that strengthens anything. Unless you want content about how a European division of the NHL is viable or you need a quota for dudes with triple chins. I like Mirtle, but I'm out on anything Atlantic now that they brought in the fat fuck.

The Penguins must have been asking a heavy price at the time...

NEW YORK – Marc-Andre Fleury can admit now he was preparing for the possibility of becoming a Calgary Flame.

He’ll even go as far as to say that had Pittsburgh Penguins GM Jim Rutherford crafted a deal to send Fleury to the Flames at last season’s trade deadline, the 32-year-old goaltender would likely have waived the no-trade clause he has in his contract.

“I think so,” said Fleury while in New York for league meetings.

“I think Calgary is a great town and a great hockey team too. I think they’ll be very good again this year. But here I am.”

Ladies and Gentlemen, the face of the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

"Coulda had it better, but here I am"

Let's market that Clarkson guy then.

This seems like a bit of an overreaction to me if you liked the site previously, but by all means read whatever you like for whatever reasons you like. Unless there are pictures of my sister in it

If Leblubber, Simmons and Wyshitsky were in a no-holds-barred fight to the death, the real winner would be the hockey public in the end.
