Geez, Captain.....:L.......it really might be time to consider hanging it up.

Mets' Wright to undergo shoulder surgery

New York Mets third baseman David Wright, who has not played in over 15 months while recovering from neck surgery, will undergo another operation Tuesday to repair his rotator cuff in his right shoulder.

The Mets announced the latest surgery for Wright on Monday, one week after the veteran's minor league rehab assignment was shut down.

Wright, 34, has not played in a game in the majors since May 27, 2016. The Mets captain has spent this entire season attempting to come back from neck surgery for a cervical disk herniation.

A seven-time All-Star, Wright has appeared in a total of just 75 games since the start of the 2015 season. He has three years and $47 million remaining on the eight-year, $138 million deal he signed in 2012.

The Mets also shared other medical updates on Monday. Outfielder Michael Conforto will undergo shoulder surgery this week. Infielder T.J. Rivera will have Tommy John surgery this week. Pitcher Josh Edgin will undergo knee surgery Tuesday. Infielder Wilmer Flores broke his nose Saturday night and will be evaluated Tuesday. Infielder Amed Rosario sustained a finger contusion Saturday and is day to day

Here's a lofty new goal for our beloved Amazin's in September.

Minimum 5 more wins. Please!

With their current record at a horrible 58-78 and with only 26 games to go in this dismal injury hexed season...just winning 5 more would prevent them from losing an embarrassing 100 games for the 7th time in their history.
1993 was the last time they lost 100 or more (103).
Prior to that the other 5 were in the 1960's. (1962-65 + '67)

Good Luck.

Good grief....WTF is up with deGrom lately??
Phils lead 6-1 in the 4th...and he's already near 90 pitches.
Mets defense hasn't helped today either...Ughhh.

* Aaannd his night is now done.

Smoker coming in to finish the 4th, but he gives up a 2 out bases loaded double, to make it a 9-1 game....:L

Harvey scratched from tonight's scheduled rubber game...due to "weather"
What, is he hungover again??

Craig Carton didn't make it to work this morning because, as Boomer Esiason said, he was "under the weather." Turns out he was actually picked up by the FBI

Good article on the state of the metsies....

Does latest Matt Harvey mishandling mean his days with Mets are numbered?

and this from a different article:
New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson dropped plenty of hints Tuesday that the club might be trimming payroll in 2018.

rumorcentral_16x9_203x114.png

The Mets ranked 12th in the majors this year with an Opening Day payroll of $155 million, a figure that is likely to decrease with $65 million coming off the team's books, reports Mike Pumaof the New York Post.

"So I’m certainly not sitting here and saying, 'OK, [the payroll] is going to be at least as high this year as it was last year,'" Alderson told reporters.

The injury-plagued Mets (59-79) traded away several higher-priced veterans this summer, including Lucas Duda, Jay Bruce, Addison Reed, Curtis Granderson and Neil Walker.

A sizable chunk of the 2018 payroll goes to outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, who is in the first season of a four-year, $110 million deal.

The financial pruning would come with the Mets needing to answer questions at a variety of positions, including every infield spot except shortstop. Puma adds that the Mets would also like to add a veteran in the bullpen and in the rotation, all of which comes at a price.

Nah, western Queens

I think the weather radar shows more heavy showers heading in and lingering over flushing & other areas of queens for the next few hours.

Edit: game just called.

Mets win 6-3.

Magic number now at 3.
