It's a formula, Clemson came in 108th in the country in returning experience. 9th in total team talent. And obviously first for last seasons results.

I admit it doesn't take into account things like coaching and the like. But I don't give a shit about a preseason poll enough to try and figure out a way to do that.

I don't even believe my own poll, but I've used it the last few years since Phil Steele came up with experience chart, 247 came up with their total team talent chart, and then I use the prior years Sagarin ratings. It's been a decent predictor. Although teams like my Longhorns are consistently overrated due to recruiting in it. It's also consistently underrated teams like Alabama who lose their whole team to the NFL draft every year. Clemson is probably a new outlying program since Dabo has a juggernaut going himself.

No, Georgia hasn't had any disastrous seasons in a long time, (we've made a bowl game every year going back as far as my memory can go), and the down seasons we have had, we weren't thought of as National title contenders before the season(The name Jeremy Johnson for Auburn ring a bell).

And go look at a year by year basis since 2001(Richt's first season) and take a look at the preseason rankings vs the end of season rankings. The results might surprise you.
