They now have 5 of the top 6 players in the state.....only one missing is Cook.

Cook will be a Buckeye in the end. I do think it will be a dogfight till the end however. Urbs got a good start on Cook and developed that relationship before Herman came in.

Possibly. But Texas stopped pursuing a few top prospects because they got some news on a guy they're recruiting......most likely Cook.

It's going to be hard for him to leave given ALL his teammates are committed to Texas. They will be in his ear ALL season.

Oh I'm sure. But Okudah and Browning don't see him everyday.....IF Texas wins next season he may decide he doesn't have a reason to leave the state.

I think Texas is in GOOD position right now. They just have to produce on the field.

Thing is, I don't even think Cook is the best DB in the state......but he's going to be solid no matter where he goes.

It's important for Herman to keep doing the job he's doing on the recruiting trail, but if he repeats the garbage job he did last year on the field, expect those doors to swing right back open. He's landing these kids largely based on hype. If he is the real deal, I expect him to do a great job of keeping the local kids there, with obviously a few outliers from year to year. He's done an excellent job this year.

I think he is the 3rd best, but this year that is still an elite national recruit.

He has these dudes believing. They are not likely to waiver.

Charlie Strong got specific guys who wanted to be coached by Charlie Strong and his core values.
And it worked reasonably well for mid-teens level classes.

Tom Herman is getting guys who want to be Longhorns regardless of the head coach.
So far this method is working much better in producing top 5 level classes.

Till you guys start getting top level o line, D-line, and LB commits it won't be enough. You have no D line commits this class and you MLB commit from Missouri isn't going to cut in in this conference if he doesn't get faster. Otherwise, you'll have a great defense for stopping 7 on 7 offenses.

LB and DL recruits in state are HORRIBLE this year......slim pickings to say the least. Not really anyone worth pursuing.

OOS recruiting is pretty difficult with 3 losing seasons to bargain with for national talent. We'll see what Herman does but I think we have good talent there already, we just won't have much depth without some kids coming in......may have to go the JUCO route

No it's really not. Texas is expected to have the second best OL in the conference. They didn't produce a 2000 yard back on "questionable" talent that's ALL returning.

Texas in state rankings:

Havent seen this type of in-state Flag Planting since maybe the late 1990s and early 2000s of Mack when he was building up the 2002-2006 era rosters.

It will take a few seasons, but Herman seems to understand what Mack and Charlie did not the last few years.

If you don't think this helps the DL and LBs you need to watch more football.

The LBs will be fine THIS year. The DL is young. But the lack of any real quality recruits in state hurts, no doubt.

We've typically had really good LB play, but DL hasn't been up to snuff more often than I'd like. Hopefully we're rectifying that. Decent start so far.

If you don't think this helps the DL and LBs you need to watch more football.

The LBs will be fine THIS year. The DL is young. But the lack of any real quality recruits in state hurts, no doubt.

DB's can only cover for so long. That's what killed us at times against better quality teams.
