Great episode. My only real gripe was the stunt casting. IMHO, that type of thing just doesn't belong in GoT...

???

stunt cast·ing
noun
noun: stunt casting; plural noun: stunt castings
  1. the casting of a very famous actor or other celebrity as a guest star in a movie or TV show, in order to garner publicity.

I didn't see any famous celebrities in the episode, and I watched it twice. To whom are you referring?

I liked the scene as well. It was just Sheeren's inclusion that I was disappointed in. But I would still rate the episode about a 9 or 9.5, so it is no big deal.

I got the sense that Arya had full intention of slaughtering the lot of them. But they were all just a bunch of good guys trying to feed their families and were not evil rapists and pillagers. Each had their own back stories, to. One was a song writer, one was a vintner, one was an expectant father who wanted a daughter, not only so she would watch over him in his old age, but so his son would not be forced to fight someone else's war, like him.

Beautiful scene, actually.

I agree. I kept waiting for it to turn dark, but it was just a bunch of kids lead by a new dad trying to find their way home. I'm guessing part of the point was to show Lannister soldiers aren't 100% loyal to their queen but for this world it was cute.

Sidenote-dont fuck around with the Girl of Bear Island. I gotta feeling that one makes it to the end.

Looking at the reaction in different places, people loved the episode. I'm just like "meh". The opening scene was fan service and then nothing else happened. We've got 13 episodes left and they burned one to set the table that was already set in the season 6 finale.

Yeah I liked some scenes but there was nothing mindblowing going on here. This was typical of the last few season premieres only I wasn't expecting a typical season premiere with a shortened season. As long as the pace picks up next episode I'm okay with it I guess.

Ed Sheeran was the main guy singing in the Lannister Army when Arya was riding by on her horse and sitting next to her.

The Samwell scenes were pretty funny...
I understand their importance and overall it wasn't too bad, but at the start of the episode and i fear continuing in the future, I still worry I'm going to be watching them while the only thing going on in my head is

It was a premiere episode, you have to set some things up. There's multiple things to put together and they didn't waste much time in the opener. Arya killed the Freys and set her intentions on where her next target is at.

Bran is at Castle Black (wonder if we'll ever find out what the fuck happened with Rickon?).

Euron is going to go for Tyrion? Dragon head?, something else as a present? Either way, set's up that armada is going to be doing some action.

I hope any tension between Jon and Sansa is done properly and they didn't show anything to say that won't be the case tonight.

The Hound looks into the fire and sees that him and the Light Brigade will have a role in the game.

Finale ended up with Dany taking to the seas and in the premiere she landed. People have said it was dragged out how long she was away from the seven kingdoms, well, boom, she's back.

Honestly, I can't find much fault. You can say the opening was fan service, and this fan will agree he was serviced.

Agreed nothing mindblowing, but the story was advanced in a few ways, and I enjoyed it:

- The Hound's new connection with fire (wow...fire of all things!) and the Lord of Light which points his party to Eastwatch by the Sea is important.

- The two massive sea fleets now being very close in proximity to one another is pretty important.**

- Sam finding a major source of dragonglass is very important.

- Jorah being at the Citadel and meeting Sam on the other side of the door is important (Sam gonna find a cure for Jorah?)

- Tormund talking about going to Eastwatch by the Sea..... shit's about to go down at that location with both Tormund & party and The Hound & party going there to take on the army of the dead.

The episode had too much of Sam cleaning poop and doing other mundane Citadel chores.... and Arya drinking with the boys from the Lannister army was sorta a wasted use of precious film time.

**A major sea battle is possibly coming soon..... is this where Euron Greyjoy will collect his gift for Cersei?..... I don't think the gift for Cersei will be Tyrion..... but perhaps a dragon's head?!?!

Um, what? Don't you remember the Battle of the Bastards? He went straight when he should have either zigged OR zagged...

Thanks for giving the name. I never heard of the guy. I just Googled the name and it appears he is a musical performer from Britain.

He's not exactly a household name... I would say that such a minor celebrity would not be considered as stuntcasting.

No. He is kinda a big deal. If you have anyone in your life under the age of 25 (or female), you should know who he is.

Now that you mention it, I recall, was a complete blank to me before that. Fuck, killed the dog too. That being said, I don't give a fuck if the series ends with Nymeria and her wolf pack cleaning up whatever mess is there a la the eagles in LoTR... or the Hobbit.

I'm 55, so I understand why I wouldn't have heard of him, but I have a 17 year-old male in our household and he never heard of him either. In fact, there are seven total people in our household (three with musical backgrounds), and none of them heard of the guy.

I thought she was rolling up on the Brothers without Banners at first since I believe in the book they had a minstrel in their group.

I got the same thought watching that scene though. They didn't deserve to die and she realized that. Good morality check, Arya. Surprised she is heading to King's Landing and not Winterfell. Not sure "joking" about killing the queen was a good move. I didn't like that.

<golf clap>

Nah, we'd much prefer to have just jumped to Cersei and the Winter King v Jon and Dany in the squared circle. 3 falls take all, and then 7 episodes of denoument!

Good grief people.

It's a marathon, not a sprint.

Although, they have sped up the show and killed off some key players on the show that are still kicking in the books.

I was half expecting GRRM to make some kind of announcement about Winds of Winter yesterday. Guess that didn't happen.
