De-commits are a way of life these days. If you want to swim in the big pool you better expect there is going to be an occasional floater. Franklin is going to get players. He just has to make sure he has top assistants to do the coaching.

But to lose our only 5-star recruits on opposite sides of the ball within 3 months of each other is a kick in the balls though.

Ricky Slade is a 5 star, good chance shorter ends up one as well

Exactly, people just aren't used to big boy recruiting at PSU. Franklin will get his...hell, we are still top 5 after losing 2 top 10 overall players. Every school gets decommits, the bigger fish you land the harder it is to keep them. Nobody stops recruiting the bigtime kids.

Exactly, the word commit is a misnomer these days. You are not committed until you enroll in school. Even then in today's era lots of kids change schools during their college careers.

I don't go crazy of those star ratings either. There are plenty of 5 stars that bomb and plenty of 2 or 3 stars who play well above their projection. I have two nephews who played college football, you know nothing until they get to that level and start playing.

yeah, I trust our staff and their eye for talent over some never was judging them at a camp in shorts. I mean, I'll take my chances with more 4-5 stars than going to war with all 2-3, but I also trust our staff's eye for talent. People weren't exactly doing cartwheels when we got Fields early as a 3 star, but our staff saw something in him very early. They also did a great job finding Stevens when we lost Wimbush.

Yep, you want the higher rated players we just have to remember it isn't a guarantee that will be a star. We all know walk on stories.

Yes folks there will be stories of Walk ons to 1 star players being studs and 5 star guys being a total bust. However normally 5 star players pan out more then 4,3,2,1 star guys. Yes we will have decommits but it just sucks when its its our 2 highest rated players. We still have a great recruiting class and with another successful season we could continue the recruiting success.

When you are piling up high 4 stars there is not much difference between them and a 5 star. If you look back at 5 star QB's the hit rate isn't exactly out of this world, just at PSU in last 10 years, Morelli, Jones, Newsome, Hackenberg......would you rather have 1 of them or Daryl Clark/Trace Mcsorely/MattMcGloin ??

Fields in an interview today said PSU and FSU are best fits for him depth chart and system wise, we are not out of it. Staff just wanted him to be solid or they were going to continue recruiting position....not be on hook while he visits everywhere. He wants to be done by end of summer, so I wouldn't be stunned to see him back in fold

Hine sight is 20/20 of course you take the better player but that also goes to show you our evaluators aren't always correct.

Love for both Fields and Parsons back but also hope we don't have a guy committ at QB then we are put in a crappy position and have to pull a scholly. Seen Michigan pull that a couple of times and think it's unfair to the kids. (Not saying we would)

PSU lands 4 Star DE Dorian Hardy

great offer list, could end up a DT. Don't see anyone else before Lasch Bash (unless they offer Leary), but I think we get a few then.....

I should amend this, I could see Dotson popping before then

PSU commits have been showing out at the Opening in Oregon this week. Shorter and Slade both making a strong case for consensus 5 star status. Both are playing on the same 7 on 7 team as Fields too, maybe seeing the skill position talent that PSU has coming in will bring him back to PSU.

Solomon Enis is also on the team and the arrow appears to be trending in PSU's direction for him as well. Him and Shorter would be a dynamic duo at WR and I would assume they would add a third as well. Probably Dotson or George, I think I would prefer Dotson but would be fine with either. How do you think WR plays out in this class LBU?

Love to get Fields back but either way our offense is looking good for a few years.

They'd take 4 if those 4 were Shorter, George, Dotson and Enis and I think there's a very strong chance those 4 commit to PSU. Anderson-Butts is teh wild card, he's lower on their board and has academic issues, heard they may take him as a DB if his grades clear up, but not sure that's something he's interested in

Would love to get Fields back with all these weapons, but not holding my breath. We'll get a good QB in this class once season starts, our O goes crazy and kids on visits see all the talent coming in to throw to

Most of the decent QBs are signed. Outside of a rising senior, who do you think we try to flip. My list would include
Jurkovec from ND (I know he hasn't wavered a bit, but another awful ND season could bring him to reason!)
Jarren Williams from Kentucky
Artur Siktowski from Miami (IMG but from NJ)
Tyler DuSue from Maryland (would get bonus points for Terp's salt)
Brennon Armstrong from Minnesota (from Ohio, we're a better program and closer to home)
Quincy Patterson from VT
Gunner Holmberg from Duke
Devin Leary from Stanford

Who should I eliminate from or add to this list?

Leary is committed to NC State currently, but I think he's the prime target.

Also Jordan Miner, 4 star CB from Florida is scheduled to announce today. PSU in a very good spot
