When I was at the AFL last November, I remember thinking that Ryder Jones "looks" like a baseball player, and that Tim Tebow does "not look" like a baseball player!

Seriously, Jones has been in the shadow of Arroyo since they were drafted. I think he can be a major league player, and have a nice career.

The dude is seriously big right? I remember seeing him like 2 years ago and was thinking he should be out there playing football.

I wonder how long Suarez stays in Richmond, and also Cyr. Both are young, but I'd like to see them move up.

Not sure the Slania as starter experiment will continue long, he's a much better reliever.

And I am pleased to see that Crick has gotten a clue as to where the strike zone is. Although not great, he has 7 walks in 15.1 IP, that is way better than the walk per inning rate he has had in the recent past. He also has 17 K's in those 15.1 IP, so that's positive.

The walks are what will hold Gregorio back, he has 24 walks in 39 innings.
Looking over the pitching stats for Sacramento, I think its time for both Slania and Stratton to be moved to the bullpen. Neither look good as startes. Both are averaging less than 5 innings a start and their numbers just look bad all over. I'd be okay if they get moved to the bullpen, Tyler Rogers gets the call to San Francisco if Morris falters again and Roberto Gomez is let go (he looks awful too). Then bring up Andrew Suarez and Jordan Johnson to fill out the AAA rotation.

However, I doubt any of this happens (outside of Gomez being let go). In the past few weeks, the Giants have picked up Vic Black and Collin Balester. Both are probably at extended spring training, waiting for roster spots at AA or AAA.

Criminy. Just STOP with the dumpster diving with pitchers. Neither of these guys has pitched in the majors since 2014-2015, one is 28 the other is 30+. Play the kids.

I thought I was the only one who always thought that when he was discussed. :)
Confession - I never heard of the pitcher before now (don't follow pre-draft stuff much any more. Following this club and the farm takes up too much of my time as is). But when you said his name, I immediately thought about Perfect Strangers. I thought that show was absolutely hilarious back in the late 80s/early 90s.

I never heard of the pitcher either. But drafting an injured kid in the draft was always the Balke special.

Of course, it has also kinda been the Sabean special, but Sabean has has had much better luck with the strategy than Balke had.

I see what I did there. You are talking about the former 49er GM.

Miguel Gomez had 4 hits and was a homer away from the cycle, his batting average is .338 and he's playing in by far the most pitcher friendly ballpark in the Eastern League. I really wonder how well this kid could hit at the ML level right now? He's position-less, but that bat is undeniable. Pablo Sandoval clone.

He's either Pablo Sandoval or Jesus Guzman. He may well be worth a trade to an AL team, benefiting both he and (hopefully) the Giants.

Guzman is a great cautionary tale of a solid hitter who simply can't play defense. I am still surprised he was never able to catch on with an AL team.

I bring up the Sandoval comp more for the body type (short, stocky. Thankfully, not nearly as stocky as Pablo though), and for hitting style. Gomez has never seen a pitch that he doesn't like, hits from both sides, and most importantly hits in general.

He hasn't gone hitless in 3 consecutive games since 2013. He hasn't gone hitless in 2 consecutive games since September of last year.

Great start for Matt Krook tonight

5.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K. Didn't walk his first batter until the 5th inning. Also of note, 11 groundball outs. His fastball has so much movement on it. I'm telling you guys, if this kid can work out his control issues and stay healthy, he has 3 plus-plus pitches. A heavy fastball (generates a ton of groundballs, 62% GB rate is the best among SF Giants MiLB starting pitchers), a big curveball, and a changeup, which is probably his best pitch when on. He also has a slider.

Big time IF, but he really could rocket through the system if he can iron out his control and command. His stuff is that good, great combination of swing and miss and groundball. Tonight was a good start.

Guzman looked good his first year in San Diego but his offense, not surprisingly for Padre, got worse and worse. After three years there he did land on an AL team, the Astros. His numbers with them were worse than any season with the Padres and never saw the light of day on an MLB team again.
