Reggie was great and my second fav player on the Pack but not a complete player as lord Watt.

Lord Twatt isn't nearly as strong against the run as White was.

Never understood that logic. The guy already has 3 DPOY awards.....what would another 5-7 years of service prove? Do you actually have to see that to make a decision on how good he is/was? Especially since the only thing that cuts his career is injury, and that basically comes down mostly to luck.

Think of a player from another era who is still considered among the all time greats because of what he did over a short period. Nobody on defense comes to mind. Watt hasn't even earned HOF consideration yet.

3 DPOY makes him a lock for the HOF. Name one player that won three DPOY and didn't make the HOF.

This is the difference when you're comparing a career or a player in his prime. JJ in his prime is the best of all time while Reggie had the best career of all time.

White had 81 sacks and 530 tackles in his first 5 seasons. Watt had 74.5 sacks and 371 tackles over his first 5 seasons.
It's always easy to see the most recent as best, but Reggie was insanely dominant early in his career.

I guarantee you if LT would've retired after 5 or 6 seasons, he'd be in the HOF. Guys like Kellen Winslow? Gale Sayers? Kenny Easley? All had shortened careers and still ended up in Canton.

That's why your logic is flawed to me.....Watt could play another 5-7 years of average football, but they will still talk about his 3 DPOY awards, 4 first team All Pros and such.

I think you're looking back with the benefit of hindsight. There were many players who were great for short periods but have been all but forgotten.
Watt has 379 tackles and 76 sacks, those are not HOF numbers.
I expect he'll accumulate enough good seasons to be HOF material, but he has a very long way to go to become the GOAT.

Kellen Winslow and Gale Sayers didn't have 'HOF numbers.' either. They didn't need them, because anyone who saw them knew they were simply ahead of everyone else around them. That is what you're seeing now from Watt.

He shouldn't have to play another snap to make the HOF in my eyes.

That's why I specified defensive players. Sayers in particular bucked the trend.
Watt has a lot of football to play before he qualifies for The HOF. William Andrews played during the heart of Walter Payton's career, he had more yards over his first 4 seasons than Payton did over the same period, he was also easily the best blocking back in the game. He was injured and isn't in the HOF, neither would Watt be if his career ended now.

Kenny Easley was a real exception, Winslow played when not as much was expected from The TE position, so Sayers and Easley are the big exceptions.

He wouldn't get my vote if I had one, he hasn't put in the work.
He might would make it though, we'll likely never know, he appears to be healthy.

You're joking right? I'm talking about Reggie Whites Philly Yeats and he was the most complete DLINEMAN in this history of the NFL. Thats nonsense to say White wasn't complete. He also played every position on on the line through out the game.

Well, the HOF isn't the be-all, end-all....it certainly doesn't give equal attention to defensive players as it does to offensive players...but that is irrelevant. William Andrews was certainly one of the best backs when he played, but was never a first team All Pro. Kellen Winslow became the standard at the position, and was a 3-time first-team All Pro. That's the difference. Winslow moved the needle. Andrews did not...and the importance of the TE position had always been there - the torch was passed from guys like Mackey/Ditka to Casper/Francis to Newsome/Winslow. The original KW simply separated himself.

Watt is a 3-time Defensive Player Of The Year....the only other guy in NFL history to do that is Lawrence Taylor. He's got 4 first team All Pros on his resume. He is quite simply, the standard right now, and he's playing the position about as good as it has ever been played. The only thing you can hang onto is longevity, and far too much of that is based on luck. Knowing how good he is, there is no way I could hold it against Watt if he becomes a walking injury.

Deacon was an all time great too. THe poster said Watt is a complete DE and Reggie wasnt... which shows me the guy isnt over 22 years old cause he must have never seen Reggie play.

That White-Brown duo was good, it's too bad it was cut short.
