Is anyone swayed one way or another by their build? Nolan Patrick is 6'3, Nico is 6'0, anybody care? Is it irrelevant? Personally, I go with the big bodied center.
The build doesn't sway me...

give me the guy who takes us over the top or close to respectability. Brings a new skill we don't have. Brings leadership and meaning back to our name.

Nolan's build is legit but if Nico's game is much much better on the offensive end, is it a deal breaker? nope.

Nico is few months younger and at 18, he probably will still grow, definitely fill out his frame.
Nolan is a bigger center, that is true.

not saying that i'm comparing them but seeing ryan johansen last night and getzlaf the series before wow man i just really want a #1 center on this team. something we haven't had since arnott and gomez. move travis down to 3c where he should be for defensive purposes when the kids are ready and have patrick/nico top line and maybe zacha or mcoled on the 2nd.

I'm feeling like we should go with the highest offensive ceiling. We have some excellent two-way centers already in the pipe. Can't believe I'm saying this as someone who grew up with the trap, but let's go pure offense, might as well swing for the fences.

coming to the dark side???

I feel that way too, though I like the qualities of Nolan too/still...

but recalling how we struggled with good chances due to fumbling of the puck, misplays, late reads, poor passing, no threat to score outside of Hall individually, talent/skill with the puck etc.....

Perhaps we need to risk it, we need our offense to get onto the level of the modern day NHL.... Nolan may do that as well too. It's still a toss up but Nico seems to lead that argument for the time being.

I just wish nico had two years in the juniors

Patrick is the safe smart pick. But nico is the type of pick that Cranston likes. I trust the guy after seeing his ability in cbj. Either way they go I won't second guess them

You have to kind of envy Hextall in philthy on this one. He has a no brainer, just drafts whichever one Shero passes on and no one will ever second guess him no matter what...

I really won't lose sleep either way, I like both guys and both of them can slot in pretty easily here. If the top 2 guys were a center and a dman, that makes it a tougher choice. But they're both centers, both will help our offense, I'll be happy either way.

yeah i agree with hextall having the easier of the choice without any of the headache.

i double agree i'm just really glad both of these guys are centers which this team needs more then defense i believe. you don't go anywhere in the nhl with a legit #1 center. is nico that though? i know they say patrick is

i forgot that john q and patrick were line mates in juniors. same with mcoled and bastian the #1 &#2 picks last year. wonder if that means anything to ray and cranston to draft buddies like that

Finally something I like to hear about Nolan

A natural sniper, Nolan Patrick has a tremendous wrist shot and quick release.

He has high end hockey IQ and always seems to make the right play both with and without the puck. Patrick has excellent vision and passing skills. He can put the puck through tight areas and make tape-to-tape passes for teammates.

oh bo hum....

All that leadership qualities and maturity. Sounds like a kid ready to be relied upon....

Fits the NHL C mold, size and speed etc...

If they say is true, about his wrist shot and shooting, then perhaps I should be swayed to Nolan. I need a player who can shoot for gods sake.

Nolan... Nico...Nolan... good lord.

its really going to come down to a hall/seguin type draft i believe.

who would you rather have at this point? seguin a center with scoring upside or hall a dynamic winger both of which the picks did live up to the hype

i just feel like nolan is the true #1 center type and while nico is listed as a center he doesn't seem a bonafide #1 center and has winger in his future. but then again im not a scout so i dont know lol and hey dont get me wrong either one of those types are welcomed on the team

I'm trying to figure out who can supplement or add to Hall's game and vice versa....

With Nico, I see a potential for winger as well... but if its LW, then he and Hall aren't necessarily seeing each other much.

Nolan may be what the franchise need in leadership. On the ice seems like a safe bet. He definitely needs a #1a/b next to him and I feel thats what Hall is (and looking for himself)

I'm team Nolan but won't lose sleep if it's Nico. I just feel like Nolan is falling victim to being a top prospect too long. Everyone nitpicks every microcosm of his game. Despite that he's still the number one guy on almost every list. A smart, big bodied center with skill just seems too tough to pass up.

what would you rate as a % in Nolan's team? are you 90% team Nolan?

70%. I think the intangibles put him over the top. Plus, watching the Canadiens small forwards get outmuscled every year in the playoffs I want size.

We're a small team, I want 6'2"+ guys in this lineup as much as possible. McLeod, 6'2, Bastian, 6'4, Zacha 6'3. Give me size and skill every time.

What, if anything, would you consider for the number one pick?
