Even though the SEC is known primarily as a football conference, softball is the league's best sport, top-to-bottom. All 13 SEC teams made it into the NCAA tournament, with 7 of those squads among the 16 seeded teams chosen to host regionals.

I miss-counted. The SEC actually has 8 seeded teams in the tournament. The Pac-12 has 5, the Big 12 has 2 & the ACC has 1.

True. The PAC has #2 Arizona, #3 Oregon, #5 UCLA, #6 Washington & #11 Utah while the SEC has #1 Florida, #7 Auburn, #8 Tennessee, #9 Texas A&M, #12 Ole Miss, #13 LSU, #14 Kentucky, & #16 Alabama.

The Big 12 has #10 Oklahoma & #15 Baylor, and the ACC has #4 Florida St.

Minnesota, at 54-3, rated #3 in the country and Big 10 champion did not even receive one of the 16 seeds.

:burt:

Like I even needed one more reason not to watch women's softball

Wow.

SOS and RPI must have been lacking. PAC 12 and SEC were stacked this year and were rightfully rewarded. The B1G isn't exactly known for their softball. Obviously record wise and being from a P5 conference, Minnesota should have been a national seed.

What hurt Minnesota was their strength of schedule came in at #113. But, even so, their adjusted RPI was #11, so you would have thought that would have put them somewhere among the top 16 seeds.

The final coaches poll (which came out after the bracket was released) ranked them the #1 team in the country.

The Sooners are always a team to contend with. I was surprised that they were only a #10 seed & could potentially be facing Auburn in the Super Regional - which would be a replay of last year's national finals. The same thing happened a few years ago between Oklahoma & Alabama.

Arizona might be the most complete team in the country. They swept the PAC-12 awards and finished top 10 in the nation in ERA, batting avaerage, runs, slugging, OBP, and homeruns.

They hit more homeruns than their opponents scored total runs.

Say what you want about the seeding, the Alabama/Minnesota game on now has lived up to the billing of the most anticipated match-up of the weekend so far. Combined 1 hit in the top of the 7th.

Yeah we beat Auburn for the national title in softball and gymnastics last year and then beat them in the Sugar Bowl. I don't think they like us very much.

All 16 regional hosts (and top-seeded teams) advanced to the Super Regional round. Has that ever happened before?
